Weightlifting Career of Bill LeBlanc

I was born in Abbeville, Louisiana in 1949 to Harold and Alberta LeBlanc. I attended Mount Carmel Elementary and graduated from Mount Carmel High in 1967. I began Olympic Weightlifting as a freshman at Mount Carmel High School in Abbeville, La in 1963. I attended three Olympic Weightlifting competitions in my high school career. In 1965, I placed first in a novice competition, in 1966, I placed third in a Louisiana Senior AAU competition, and in 1967, I placed first in a Louisiana State AAU competition.
As I entered my college career of weightlifting competition, in 1968, I placed first at the Teenage Nationals at the age of 18 years old in Des Moines, Iowa. I also placed first in three of the four National Collegiate Championships I competed in.
After my college days of competition, in 1973, I won the YMCA Nationals. In 1977, I placed first in the Junior National AAU meet and in 1978, I was invited to the first Olympic Sports Festival in Colorado Springs, placing second. I was then invited to the 1979 Sports Festival. However, I was unable to attend due to my work schedule. In 1979, I placed fourth in the Senior National AAU meet. In that same year, I broke a 17 year old Louisiana State Clean and Jerk record with a lift of 258.5 lbs. In 1980, I place third in the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Due to the accomplishments above, I was inducted in the USL Hall of Fame Class of 1995. I competed in two classes during my weightlifting career, 123 lb and 132 lb classes.
From 1965 to 1980, I competed in many Louisiana State, Region lX competitions, as well as competitions in the states of Texas, Arkansas, and Florida of which I won most of the meets I competed.
My best lifts in the 123 lb class were in the Snatch, lifting 190 lbs and the Clean and Jerk, lifting 258.5 lbs. In the 132 lb class, my best lifts were in the Snatch, lifting 209 lbs and the Clean and Jerk, lifting 292.5 lbs.
I married Brenda Daigle in 1974, a USL graduate as well. We have three children: Billy, Brooke and Bryson along with 6 grandsons. I am presently retired and enjoying life.
