A native Houstonian, he spent his life as a keen observer and active participant in its people, sports, and culture. His employment revolved around sales and career/job placement. A 1970 graduate of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, he spent 3 years on a football scholarship at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (formerly USL) before receiving his B.S. from the University of Houston. In the early ’80s, he returned for a period to Strake Jesuit to coach and to teach mathematics. Wayne will be remembered as a consummate “people” person with an unparalleled ability and passion to meet, greet, and connect with virtually anybody who crossed his path–regardless of their positions or background. He was famous for striking up conversations about anything from sports (his favorite) to current events to politics, be it with friends and family or with the person on the bus, at the diner, or on the radio. He was a walking “almanac” of past and current sports history and events. His greatest loves were his children– his son Dax, and daughters Jessica and Carly. He was preceded in death by his parents, May Blair and Allen H. Blair. He is survived by two brothers, Ray and Don; a sister Dianne Blair Knesek of Clear Lake; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 8:00 PM Wednesday, Feb. 12th, at the Chapel/Library of Strake Jesuit College Prep, 8900 Bellaire Boulevard, Houston TX.
