Assistant Basketball Coach from 1965-73.

Married to Judy Hild in 1957. Children: Robin and his wife, Betsy, and their two children, Andrew and Courtney, reside in Jackson MS; Kelly and his wife, Kay, and their two children, Grant and Nate, and a baby due in October reside in Lafayette, LA.

Original contact with Coach Shipley was in 1964-65 while I was coaching high school basketball in Owensboro, KY and operating a college basketball scouting service. Coach Shipley used my scouting report in his victory over Murray State in Murray, KY. Later that year, his assistant left and he offered me the position. As the saying goes, “The rest was history”; NAIA National Tournament, NCAA-Div. II National Tourney (3rd place), two NCAA Div. I Tourney appearances, and top ten national rankings in Coach Shipley’s last three years. During those years Blackham Coliseum was the place to be in Lafayette and the fans and the city were outstanding.

For the past 28 years my success in the insurance industry in Lafayette (State Farm Agent) can be attributed in a large part to Coach Shipley’s influence in my life.

Judy and I thank God for the Shipleys. We often wonder where we would be today without their faith in us.
