Obituary: Ann DeVillier

February 26, 1954 – July 10, 2009

LAFAYETTE – Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at a 1 p.m. Service, in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille, for Ann DeVillier, 55, who passed away peacefully Friday, July 10, 2009, at her residence in Lafayette.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette.

Reverend O. Joseph Breaux, Pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice, will officiate the services. Lectors will be Gale Lear and Cindi Morgan. Pat Melancon, organist and soloist, will sing for the services, “Ave Maria”, “Be Not Afraid” and “Amazing Grace”.

Survivors include five brothers, Carl Vincent and his wife, Shirley, Russell Vincent and his wife, Ella Mae, Manfred Vincent, Winston Vincent and his wife, Jean and Edwin “Sonny” DeVillier and his wife, Maureen; twenty-four nieces and nephews; forty-five great nieces and nephews and lifetime special niece and friend, Joanie Patin Bourque.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Effie Broussard DeVillier; one brother, Belson Paris Vincent; and two sisters, Melba Jeanne Patin and Mary Dell Trahan.

A native of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana and resident of Lafayette for most of her life, Ms. DeVillier was a loving sister, aunt, great aunt and friend to all who knew her. She was an educator for over thirty years and worked at the Lafayette Juvenile Detention Center until her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family requests that visitation be observed Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Athletic Footnote: Sylvia “Ann” Devillier worked as a student in Sports Information at UL from 1973-1977. She became one of the captains of the Sports Information Captains Network when the Athletic Network was started in 2002. Our condolences are extended to Ann’s family. May she rest in peace.
