Sidney Percy “Coach Sid” White
White, Sidney Percy “Coach Sid” A lifelong resident of Clinton, he died early on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at his home.
He was 75 and a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served from 1956 until 1959 as a pilot and navigator. He retired from the East Feliciana Parish school system in 1986, having served for 27 years as a teacher, coach and principal.
Football being an important part of his life, he was a member of Clinton High School 1950 Class B state championship team, assistant coach of the 1962 state championship Team and head coach of the 1968 state championship team.
Coach Sid was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and golfing with his many friends. Visiting at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Clinton on Monday, Jan. 15, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the church Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 8:30 a.m. until service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Danny Whitehead. Burial at the Masonic Cemetery in Clinton.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Miriam Thomas White of Clinton; and daughter, Mary Elizabeth White Brown and her husband, Steven Brown, of Abita Springs. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Eugenia Percy White; and a brother, James H. White Jr. Pallbearers will be Scott Fin, Mel Percy, Steve Brown, Will Jones, Larry Thomas and Billy Percy. Honorary pallbearers are Buck Powell, Toler Hatcher, Hubert L. Polk Jr., Francis Hunt, Sonny Franklin, Rick Lalande, Mike Felps, Bill Bankston, George Bankston, Gary Elkins, Keith Sparks, Bobby Wilson, Hollice T. Jackson Jr., Virgil “Shorty” McDaniel and all the members of 1950, 1962 and 1968 state championship Clinton High School football teams.
He received his bachelor of science degree in business administration at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1956 and his master of education from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1971.
