Shirley Pennington Faulk passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at the age of 90. She was the wife of the late Woodruff Word Faulk , Sr. She was the mother of Woodruff Word Faulk , Jr. and Charles Stephen Faulk . She was the daughter of the late Dr. George A. Pennington , the first physician in the Madisonville, LA area, and the late Katie Eells Pennington . She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Courtney Pennington , Allen Pennington , Giles Pennington , Enos Pennington , Annie Pennington Koepp, Eva Pennington Potter, Katherin Pennington and Ina Pennington . She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, of which is a very special niece, June Bergeron, who was like a sister to her. She graduated from Lyon High School in Covington, LA and Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette. She was a retired physical education teacher who taught at Nicholls High School in New Orleans and St. Scholastica Academy in Covington, LA. While in high school she was an All State Basketball player. After college, she served in the United States Navy during World War II. She was an active member of the Madisonville Presbyterian Church and PEO until her illness.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Manor of Mandeville, St. Catherine’s Hospice and Drs. Craig Parker and Jim Robinson and their staffs.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at the Chapel of E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 11:30 AM. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow in Theodore Dendenger Cemetery in Madisonville, LA.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the Madisonville Presbyterian Church, 705 Pine Street, Madisonville, LA 70447.
