Home Phone: 225-753-8107 Ronnie’s Living Memorial for the Coach Shipley Tribute was submitted for the 2001 Shipley Reunion and updated by Mac Price later. Posted by Dr. Ed Dugas on Oct. 3, 2017. * * * * * * * Basketball Player, 1959-60 and 63-64. Married to Janis Gomez, we have four (4) children: Terrie, Faith, Brandy, Scott, and six (6) grandchildren. Coach Shipley recruited me from Simmesport High in 1959. I was a four (4) year starter and made All-State twice. While I never lettered at SLI/USL, I was responsible for many of my teammates getting their letters – I guarded them at practice and made them look so good. However, I cannot take credit for Jimmy Dykes and Mack Price. Coming to Lafayette and SLI/USL was exciting for a small town boy like me, but making friends on the basketball team and campus was even more exciting! Even though I did not take full advantage of the education that Coach Shipley offered me, I will always remember him teaching us to work hard and things will work out for the best. It has for me! I have been a Lab Technician for Allied Chemical and ExxonMobil for the last 33 years and hope to retire in two more years. Looking forward to getting together with old teammates and friends to share old stories. Thanks for the invitation. * * * * Ronnie served in the U.S. Army from 1960-62.
