Robicheaux from New Iberia, La. And Euginia Verret from Jeanerete, La. Moved to West Monroe, Louisiana in 1951 and then to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1955. Married to high school sweetheart Gloria Menard Robicheaux for 36 years until her death in 1999 and married Donna Janak Robicheaux in 2011. Attended Ransom Elementary, St. Pascal Elementary and Crosley Elementary in West Monroe. Attended Lafayette Elementary and graduated from Lafayette High in 1962. Attended USL in Lafayette in pursuit of a business degree and completed various accredited courses at LSU, Tulane, University of Texas, University of Oklahoma, University of Mississippi and Tulsa University. Began working in the mail room for United Gas Pipeline/Union Producing in 1962 while attending USL part time. Worked in United Gas/ field operations for two years and in the Union Producing Land Department as a draftsman/clerk for two years. Accepted a geological draftsman position and moved to geophysical draftsman with Union Producing. Accepted a chief draftsman position with Texas Pacific Oil Company in 1972 and was promoted to Landman after two years. Accepted the position of Vice President of the Land Department with HUBCO Exploration in 1980 holding that position until 2010 when he established Robicheaux Land Services retiring in 2012. Was a long time member of the Lafayette Association of Petroleum Landmen and the American Association of Petroleum Landmen. Began playing organized baseball and football in 1952 in West Monroe. Continued playing baseball in Lafayette until 1962 where he finished as an American Legion all district second baseman. Received various performance and leadership awards during his baseball career. Favorite saying was “my baseball career ended when they invented the curve ballâ€. There was no baseball in Lafayette Parish High Schools at the time. Began coaching and working with youth in 1962 when he was selected by Mr. Tigue Moore to organize and operate a baseball clinic and league for the city of Lafayette for boys who were not selected to participate on any city teams. Began coaching in the Lafayette city leagues in 1963 when he coached the Optimist “B†League team in the Lafayette Elementary area. Coached football in the Boys Club Mite league and later in the Lafayette Peanut league for numerous years. Coached baseball and football until 1972 when he became involved with the SLYSI youth organization where he was a primary developer of the organization. Continued coaching and was elected the third President of SLYSI. During involvement with SLYSI, besides coaching, helped other areas develop neighborhood organizations under the City/Parish umbrella. Later accepted as a model by Parish Recreation, originated the SLYSI basketball and girls softball programs at SLYSI and helped other areas of the parish develop similar programs. Brought football under the SLYSI umbrella and helped other areas adopt sports other than baseball under the neighborhood concept. Also initiated flag football, six man tackle and volleyball programs at SLYSI. Coached numerous players who had outstanding high school, college and professional careers. Served as Regional Director for Pony Baseball (Pony League) for eight years and served for numerous years on the Lafayette Parish Baseball Committee which controlled all baseball for the Parish. Headed Pony and Colt Leagues for the parish and directed Tournaments and activities for the Parish for a number of years before being named as a charter member of the Lafayette City/Parish Recreation Commission. Served as chairman of the Commission for a year and chaired the Youth and Adult Activities Committees each of the nine years served on the Commission. Completed coaching career in 2009 accumulating a vast number of league, district, regional and state titles. Began involvement with Lafayette High Baseball in 1980 where he organized the LHS Baseball Booster Club serving as president for three years. Spearheaded numerous fundraising activities and facility improvements and assisted other schools in developing their booster groups and facilities. Was active in developing the LHSAA baseball All Star game first held in Lafayette and received recognition from LHSAA for his contributions. Became the PA announcer for LHS baseball and football in 1981 and became known to many as the voice of the Mighty Lions and still announces baseball and football today. Also involved in organizing and administering various LHS baseball and football groups and activities. He was inducted into the Lafayette High Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019. Assisted Mr. Tigue Moore and others with the Lafayette American Legion baseball program over many years and chaired various committees for tournaments held in Lafayette and surrounding area. Became involved with the USL baseball program in 1982 and helped Mel Didier and others develop a booster organization to assist with fundraising and facility improvements serving as president of the club for over eight years. Served on several selection committees appointed to screen baseball coach applicants at USL. Continued involvement as booster president under Brad Kelley, Gene Shell and Mike Boulanger and again became president of the booster organization for the first several years under Tony Robichaux. Continued to assist in various activities when called upon. Played adult softball for over 30 years beginning with United Gas in the 60s and then Prof Erny, LBA, Clark Sherwood and Steven’s Homes participating in numerous local, state, regional and national tournaments. Also participated in the Lafayette adult flag football, basketball and volleyball programs for a number of years. Was one of the original Blue Coat members for the top 28 High School basketball tournament held in Lafayette for a long period and chaired and served on numerous related committees. Ron received national recognition with an award from the National Recreation and Park Association for contributions to youth recreation and the Robicheaux Center on Eraste Landry was named in his honor for which he feels a deep since of pride. Hobbies include golf, woodworking and old cars and was a member of the Lafayette “Half Fast Car Clubâ€, the Model A Ford Club of America and the Antique Auto Club of America.
