Obituary:

Alfred Merlin Marks
November 27, 1926 – May 7, 2012

Eunice ~ Alfred Merlin “Coach” Marks, a Eunice native, went to be with Jesus on May 7, 2012, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. To his family, he was a faithful husband, father, and godly example. Alfred served in the Navy during World War II. He was a school teacher and high school coach at both Eunice High School and St. Edmunds’s Catholic School. He enjoyed tennis, golf, and sports in general. He competed in the Senior Olympics in tennis for many years. Music was always a big part of his life. He served as a music minister in many Baptist churches throughout Louisiana. Al was also a charter member of the Louisiana Baptist Singing Ministers. Most of all he loved Jesus and was a life-long minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Al was a vital part of the ongoing efforts of the Greater Eunice Ministerial Alliance. He also started the Eunice Character First Chapter and worked tirelessly to see the program implemented in area schools and civic organizations.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Eunice. There will be visitation from 12:30 p.m. until service time in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Porter Marks and Elda Marie Young Marks. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Nanette Z. Marks, his sister, Dorothy Marks Thompson; one son, Alfred Merlin, Jr. and his wife, Dee; one daughter, Andrea Marie and her husband, Thomas Husband; five grandchildren, Rebecca, Aaron, Jonathon, and James Marks and Anna Husband; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wants to express appreciation to all of the friends who prayed and supported us through this time. Special thanks to his attending physicians and Heart of Hospice for their care. We encourage memorial gifts be made to the charity of your choice.

Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Eunice is in charge of arrangements, 337-457-3371.
