Mike was the pioneer of the weightlifting program in Lafayette, Acadiana, and the university where he coached the 1956 and 1957 teams.
While the 1956 team finished second in the NCAA championships, the 1957 team claimed the title and won the university’s first NCAA championship in any sport.
