For the week, Johnson averaged 25.0 points and 11.0 rebounds. Last Wednesday against FAU, Johnson could not be stopped, as her scoring kept the Cajuns in the game. Johnson scored 25 points in the second half en route to a career-high 39. Her previous career-best was 22 points vs. Lamar on Nov. 27, 2009 that she later tied on Dec. 31, 2009 at Western Kentucky. She also racked up 16 rebounds, tying her career high from earlier this season. The last Cajuns player to score more than 39 points in a game was the legendary Kim Perrot, who tallied 42 points on four different occasions during her senior season of 1989-90 – the season in which she led the nation in scoring. She backed up the performance, reaching double figures again at South Alabama on Saturday. Against the Jaguars, she scored 11 points. * * * * * * * * * * Women’s Basketball: Johnson Tallies 39 In Loss To FAU February 11, 2010 Courtesy: RaginCajuns.com BOCA RATON, Fla. – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns couldn’t keep pace in a second half shootout with Florida Atlantic, dropping an 84-75 decision to the Owls on Wednesday evening. UL falls to 8-17 (3-10), while FAU improves to 13-11 (9-5). The second half started with a viscous scoring pace, as both teams opened up the offense. The Cajuns began the second half with 24 points in the first 10 minutes, but saw their seven-point halftime deficit increase to 10. Mercedes Johnson could not be stopped, as her scoring kept the Cajuns in the game. Johnson scored 25 points in the second half en route to a career-high 39. Johnson scored in the paint at the 6:47 mark to bring Louisiana within seven points, 70-63. Johnson would score eight straight at one point, but unfortunately UL could never get any closer the rest of the way. Johnson led all players and tied her career-high with 16 rebounds, marking her fourth career double-double. Alexis Green was the only other Cajuns player in double figures, as she finished with 10 points, while adding seven rebounds. FAU’s entire starting line-up finished in double figures, led by 21 points from Teri Stamps. The Owls shot 45.2 percent in the game, including 47.4 percent from three-point range. The Cajuns shot 38.0 percent from the floor and just 16.7 percent from behind the arc. The Cajuns jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead to open the game, forcing FAU to take a timeout at the 17:17 mark. The stoppage didn’t help the Owls, as they turned the ball over on the next possession. The Cajuns followed with a turnover, but FAU again lost the ball out of bounds. Johnson scored at the 16:03 mark to put UL in front 10-3. After the teams traded baskets, FAU used a 14-2 run over a 2:51 span to take their first lead of the game, 19-14, with 9:01 remaining in the first half. A triple by Green cut the Cajuns deficit to three points, 24-21, with 6:53 showing on the clock, but the Owls countered with a 7-2 spurt to build a 31-23 lead with 5:34 remaining before the half. After again cutting the FAU lead down to three points with two minutes to play, the Owls scored the final four points of the half to carry a seven-point lead into the break. Newspaper Box Score —
