Matt Sullivan begins his seventh year with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns after joining the staff as an assistant in August 2013.

The Baton Rouge, La., native serves as the day-to-day contact for the Ragin’ Cajuns men’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s soccer and men’s and women’s track and field programs while helping oversee the publicity of the Ragin’ Cajuns 16 athletic programs.

Serving as the primary media contact for the Ragin’ Cajuns football program from 2014-17, and under his leadership, the UL Sports Information Office was one of 11 honored nationally by the Football Writers Association of America in 2016 with the “Super 11” Award for excellence in sports information. The “Super 11” is handed out to departments which were deemed the best in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision. The award was also the first for a Louisiana FBS program since its inception in 2009.

In his career, Sullivan has helped publicize four teams that have advanced to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships (Louisiana, Southeastern Louisiana, Samford), three bowl games, six NCAA Golf Regionals, a pair of NCAA Baseball Super Regionals, three NCAA Softball Super Regionals and a Women’s College World Series appearance.

Prior to moving to Lafayette, Sullivan spent 13 years in the SID office at Southeastern Louisiana University, including the last six as Assistant AD for Media Relations. A former student intern and graduate assistant at SLU, Sullivan returned to his alma mater in 2000 as Assistant Sports Information Director. In 2003, he was promoted to Associate Media Relations Director before assuming Assistant AD duties in 2007.

Sullivan was responsible for the complete oversight of the sports information department at SLU while managing the publicity efforts for the Lions’ 15 Division I athletic programs. He coordinated the design of the school’s official athletic website (www.LionSports.net), the department’s broadcasting and web streaming opportunities and served as chair of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

He led the publicity efforts for SLU football player Robert Alford – a 2012 All-American, a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, the National FCS Defensive Player of the Year by College Sports Journal and a second-round selection by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Before returning to Hammond, Sullivan spent two years at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., where he served as Assistant Sports Information Director before being promoted to SID in 1999. During his two-year tenure, Sullivan handled the day-to-day publicity for the Bulldogs’ 17 Division I athletic programs, including football, baseball and men’s basketball, which earned Trans America Athletic Conference (now the Atlantic Sun) championships in 1999 and 2000, along with automatic berths to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships.

Sullivan worked as a student intern at SLU under long-time Sports Information Director and Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame member Larry Hymel in 1994, before rejoining the SID Office in 1996-97 as a graduate assistant. In 1997, he was a recipient of the Ace Higgins Award, presented by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association to the top graduate/student assistant in a Louisiana sports information office.

He has served as an official scorer at both the Southeastern Conference and Southland Conference Baseball Tournaments and worked on the Media Relations staff for the 2012 NCAA Men’s Final Four, the 2008 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championships, the New Orleans Bowl (2001, 2002) and the 2014 All State Sugar Bowl. He also worked on the statistics staff for the All State Sugar Bowl National Prep Basketball Classic and the Arena Football League’s New Orleans VooDoo.

He served as a free lance writer for the Baton Rouge Advocate, covering high school, college and club athletics, and has served as a coordinator for numerous LSWA weekly and postseason teams.

Sullivan earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, with emphasis in sports broadcasting and a minor in history, from SLU in 1994. A member of CoSIDA, the United States Basketball Writers Association and the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association, Sullivan and his wife, Stephanie, are the parents of a son, Matthew.
