Funeral Notice – WEDDING

Times-Picayune, The (New Orleans, LA) – Sunday, February 27, 2011

Mary Ellen McEniry Wedding, age 84, a resident of Gulfport, MS, died peacefully after a brave battle with Leukemia and Lymphoma at her home with her family and friends at her side.

A native of Erie, PA, she graduated from St. Mary of the Pines School in Chatawa, MS, and received her B.S. from the Southwestern Louisiana Institute, Lafayette, LA in 1948. She taught Physical Education in the Jefferson Parish, Louisiana school system in the ’50s. She was the daughter of William and Sybil (Sutherland) McEniry, both long-time residents of the Handsboro neighborhood in Gulfport. In 1959, she married Edgar E. Wedding, Jr. of Gulfport, MS.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings: Alice McEniry Hamp, Homer Wayne McEniry, William Thomas “Bill” McEniry, Jr., and Suzanne McEniry; and granduncle and grandaunt: Leo and Annie (Cleary) Marrero.

She is survived by five children: Tom (Carla) Wedding of Carlisle, PA, Ann (Roger) Rowland of Madison, MS, Jane Wedding of Ft. Worth, TX, Robert Wedding of Ft. Worth, TX, and Stephen (Sara) Wedding of Raymond, MS; three grandchildren: David C. Lester, Jr., Hannah Rowland and Joshua Rowland; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The family would like to thank her nieces, Sylvia Muir and Suzanne Scott and her husband Stan Scott, and her dear friends Peggy and Tommy Clements, and Ernestine Norman for their loving and special care of Mary Ellen during her illness. The family would like to also thank the caring nurses and staff of the 3rd floor oncology unit, and the Infusion Lab at Memorial Hospital Gulfport for their exceptional care during our mother’s hospital stay.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 1:00 PM where friends may visit from 12:00 noon until the mass at 1:00 pm. The burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions to the American Cancer Society, 417 Security Street, Gulfport, MS 39507.
