Obituary: Martha Couvillion Crick – Red Jackets 1950-51 – Dec. 12, 2009

Posted by Dr. Ed Dugas, Feb. 16, 2018.

Martha Crick went home to be with the Lord on December 12, 2009, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Alexandria, LA, on October 27, 1931. She was a 1953 graduate of SLI in Lafayette. Mrs. Crick taught high school in Pineville for two years. She married her husband Bobby in 1953 and moved to Lake Charles, where she began teaching English at Westlake High School. She later became the librarian of the school, a position she held for the remainder of her 35 year teaching career. Mrs. Crick was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority and the Calcasieu Parish Retired Teachers Association. After her retirement, she moved with her husband to live in Hemphill, Texas, on Toledo Bend. She was the President of the El Camino Bay Property Owners Association for three years and was instrumental in bringing about several major improvements to the subdivision during her tenure. Of all her accomplishments, what brought her the most joy was spending time with her loving husband of 56 years, as well as her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Crick loved the Lord and was a member of a local Baptist church.
Mrs Crick leaves a strong legacy in the family members who will cherish her memory, husband Bobby Crick; one daughter, Debbie Buckley and her husband Andy of Lake Charles; two sons, Freddy Crick and wife Sherry of Lake Charles, and Lee Crick and wife Kathleen of Sulphur; grandchildren, Jonathan Buckley, Kathryn Sanford and husband Clint, Mika Shreeve and husband Drew, Robert (Cricket) Crick and Stephen Box; great grandchildren Carson, Savannah and Aiden Sanford; two sisters, Sondra Stanley of North Carolina and Linda Thompson of Alexandria; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Joy Couvillion.
Her memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 17, with Dr. Andy Buckley officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral home. Internment will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Isaac Low Cemetery next to her home on Toledo Bend. Pallbearers will be Andy Buckley, Lee Crick, Freddy Crick, Jonathan Buckley, Robert (Cricket) Crick and Stephen Box. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in memory of Mrs. Crick to the American Heart Association or the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jody George, the staff of Cornerstone Hospital of Southwest Louisiana, and Southern Care Hospice for the care and concern for Mrs. Crick and the entire family.
