Obituary: Marie Louise Franques LaCaze – Red Jacket 1939-42 – Faculty Member 1973-89 – July 3, 2014

LAFAYETTE – Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers on Bertrand, for Marie Louise Franques LaCaze, 93, who passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at her home in Lafayette.

Interment will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reverend Patrick Broussard, Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Rita LaCaze, Elizabeth LaCaze and Theresa LaCaze Smith. Giftbearers will be Caitlin LeVine and Olivia LeVine. Rick Melebeck, soloist, and Karen Broussard, organist, will sing for the service.

Marie Louise LaCaze, was a native of Church Point and a resident of Lafayette for most of her life. She was a graduate from SLI (now ULL) and LSU. She was a dedicated teacher and primarily taught at the college level, at USL. Marie was a charter member of AOPi Sorority, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, helped to form the Azalea Chapter of the National Secretaries Association and was a member of the Professional Secretaries International, Phi Kappa Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma and the USL University Women’s Association.

She loved to cook and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and was very involved with the Serra Club and her church. Marie Louise Franques LaCaze will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by four daughters, Rita LaCaze, Elizabeth LaCaze, Theresa LaCaze Smith and her husband Richard and Catherine LaCaze LeVine; and five grandchildren, Caitlin LeVine, Olivia LeVine, Alexander Smith, Griffin Smith and Harrison Smith.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Neil LaCaze; one grandson, Hunter Neil-LaCaze LeVine; parents, Lloyd and Rita Franques; and one brother, Francis Franques.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed in Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM on Monday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Richard Smith, Alexander Smith, Griffin Smith, Harrison Smith, Bill Blalock and Chris Miller.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. LaCaze’s name to the Franques-LaCaze Scholarship, ULL Foundation, P.O. Box 44290, Lafayette, LA 70504.

The family would like to thank Vicki Breaux, Michelle Breaux, Sheila Delahoussaye and Vera Lewis, all with Sisters Care Sitting Agency; and the doctors, nurses and staff of Hospice of Acadiana, for their compassionate care.
