Louis F. Gaudet Jr. (01-21-2012)

Funeral services for Louis F. Gaudet Jr., 83, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, in Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings, with Revs. Charles McMillin and Jerry Masters officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Gaudet died at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 in Jennings American Legion Hospital.
Visitation will be held from 3-9 p.m. today, Wednesday, and will continue from 8 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.
A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel.
Mr. Gaudet was a native of Westwego and a resident of Jennings since 1953, moving here from Baton Rouge. He graduated from Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge in 1947 and SLI in Lafayette with a B.A. degree, in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He received a master’s degree in administration and supervision from LSU in 1958. He completed 30 graduate hours above his master’s degree from LSU and McNeese State University, then he began teaching and coaching at Jennings High School in 1953. He served as head basketball coach and assistant football coach. He was named “Coach of the Year” in basketball in 1954 and 1957. Mr. Gaudet was named assistant principal of Jennings High School in 1957, where he served until 1963. He was named principal of Jennings Northside in 1963 and served until 1968. He was named supervisor of instruction and special services in 1968, where he served until 1974, and was named assistant superintendent of administration in 1974. Mr. Gaudet was appointed superintendent on July 1, 1976.
Mr. Gaudet was a member of many organizations, including Louisiana Teachers’ Association, Louisiana Association of School Officials, Louisiana Association of School Superintendents and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Fraternity.
He loved to golf, hunt, fish, swim and was a spectator of athletic events and carpentry.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette McNabb Gaudet of Jennings; three daughters, Lisa (Terry) Royer of Jennings, Angela (Troy) Gary of Jennings and Tanya Gaudet; one son, Terry (Sylvia) Gaudet of Sulphur; a special daughter, Betty (Frank) Cormier of Lafayette; three sisters, Rosemary Champagne of Baton Rouge, Doris Hennan of Pearland, Texas, and Gloria Smith of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Frederick and Nora LeBlanc Gaudet; and one sister, Louise Ferrara.

I entered the U.S. Army in August 1951. I served in Korea from October 1952 until July 1953 with the 40th Infantry Division. I was the Team Chief on Air Ground Liaison Team and was Honorably Discharged as a Sergeant in 1953. The medals I received were the United Nations medal, the Korean government medal, the Good Conduct medal, and the Campaign medal with 2 Battle Stars.
