Larry’s Living Memorial for the Bobby Banna Tribute is followed by information about life after USL. His LM was submitted on 4/5/2017 and was posted by Dr. Ed Dugas that day.

Bobby Banna’s Living Memorial, Larry Stein – Baseball 1968-70

I’d like to thank Coach Banna for the many fond memories I have of baseball at USL, particularly being there when the wins started coming.

Coach Banna was instrumental in bringing winning baseball back to USL, and nothing is more indicative of that than his first two recruiting classes, which included Charlie Bordes, Al Torregano, and none other than Ron Guidry.

Those three, along with many others, were the core of the teams that started the winning tradition in baseball that continues to this day.

Highlights that I remember from Coach Banna’s first couple of years was a win over LSU in Baton Rouge, and a doubleheader win over a nationally ranked Tulane team in New Orleans.

Thanks, Coach Banna for all you did for me and for the university.

I joined the Air Force after graduation in 1971 as a navigator. Was on active duty for 7 yrs, and another 15 yrs in the AF Reserves, and retired as a LT Col. In 1980 I earned an MBA from the University of Texas and worked as a CPA for 4 yrs, then worked in the mortgage business as a controller or CFO for various banks and mortgage companies. I retired in 1998 from Washington Mutual in Seattle, WA, and I now live in Hot Springs Village, AR with my wife Chris. I have 2 sons and 3 grandchildren who live in Austin.
