Updated Jan. 22, 2021 Former Baseball: Seibold’s stint at New Iberia ends Daily Advertiser, April 13, 2011 NEW IBERIA – After four successful seasons as New Iberia’s baseball coach, Kyle Seibold is now looking forward to a new opportunity for the next school year. Seibold resigned his position after a 4-17 start prior to the end of his fifth season. Seibold said he plans to finish out the school year as a teacher and then pursue a coaching position at another school for the 2011-12 school year. “It certainly wasn’t an easy decision for me but I wasn’t left with much of a choice,” Seibold said in a statement. “I have enjoyed my time leading the NISH baseball program and will cherish the time I spent there, the young men that I had the privilege of coaching and some of the relationships that were formed with parents and coaches.” During his stay with the Jackets, Seibold led NISH to four playoff appearances and back-to-back district titles for the first time in over 20 years. His record was 84-69 overall and 35-23 in district play. He was the Class 5A All-State Coach of the Year in 2007 after leading NISH to its first district title in over a decade. He was district Coach of the Year twice and area Coach of the Year three times. “We were able to experience 5A baseball at its finest,” Seibold said. During his stint, eight Jackets signed baseball scholarships. * * * * * * * * * Former Baseball Player: Switch works for Seibold New Iberia coach earns top 5A honor When Kyle Seibold’s baseball career at UL ended in 1995, he began a five-year stint at KPEL-AM radio. Throughout those years, however, something always told him that coaching would be in his future. He was right. And after six years as an assistant coach, his first season as a head coach confirmed that in a big way. Seibold led the New Iberia Yellow Jackets to the program’s first playoff win in over a decade, earning him the distinction as the Class 5A state baseball Coach of the Year. Seibold edged West Monroe’s Mark Sims in the vote for the honor. “I never expected something like this, especially this early in your career,” Seibold said. “I think my wife (Kim) is going to be more excited than me. It’s tough being a coach’s wife, so I’m excited for her. We just got married in December and then it was baseball season.” The Jackets had been a bottom-division team in District 2-5A for over a decade now. In his first season, Seibold led New Iberia to a 23-11 record, the first state playoff win in recent memory and a road win over the Barbe Buccaneers. “The kids did it,” the 33-year-old Seibold said. “They deserve the credit. I just believed in them.” It didn’t take long for New Iberia athletic director Rick Hutson to notice the difference. “When they beat Catholic High of Baton Rouge, it gave them a lot of confidence,” Hutson said. “I think the biggest thing I noticed is that when they got behind in the past, they didn’t have the energy to come back. “That wasn’t the case this year. They were a lot of games when I thought they were out of it and they’d either come back and win or take it to extra innings. I think Kyle did a great job with those kids.” Seibold says his philosophies of dealing with players was greatly molded by watching former Carencro head football coach Mac Barousse as an assistant at Carencro from 2000-04. “From the first day out there at football practice, I was impressed with the way he got his point across to the kids,” Seibold said. “Mac just has the ability to get kids to function at the highest level. Mac had a huge influence on the way I coach.” Even when Seibold was announcing his games on the radio, Barousse had a feeling he would be a coach one day. “All he needed was an opportunity,” Barousse said. “I remember talking to Kyle 10 years ago when he wasn’t sure if he wanted to be a coach or not. I always knew he’d be a good coach. He was ate up with it. He knew a lot about it and he studied it. All he needed was an opportunity. “When he first started, he expected the kids to be perfect, but he made huge strides his first two or three years. He knows the game, but I always said that Xs and Os are overrated. I think Kyle figured out how to get them to play.” That came after the 1991 North Vermilion graduate finally decided that coaching would be his chosen profession. “After I left KPEL, I remember my father asking me what I wanted to do,” Seibold said. “There was no question that I wanted to coach. I really enjoyed doing radio, but even in those days there was always something that told me that I needed to get more involved with the game, more involved in a direct manner.” Seibold now running Jackets’ defense It’s been quite an exciting few weeks for New Iberia Senior High’s Kyle Seibold. A few weeks before that, it was settled that Seibold was the new defensive coordinator in football for the Yellow Jackets, replacing Laurence Hutson. “I’d say that he’s had a pretty good impact here in a year,” NISH athletic director, head football coach Rick Hutson said. “He just does a really effective job of communicating with the kids. I guess he gets that from his years in radio. He’s an excellent teacher.” “I was impressed with the detail and how thoroughly he explained it to me,” he said. “Then I was impressed with the way he explained it on the board to the kids. I could see then that he was going to do a good job.” Hutson said he wasn’t shocked, because former Carencro High coach Mac Barousse had told him about Seibold. “When we were interviewing for coaches, one of the things Mac told me about Kyle is that he was a good baseball coach, but that I was going to be surprised at how good of a football coach he was as well,” Hutson said. Baseball: Seibold joins New Iberia staff July 06, 2006 – Seibold joins New Iberia staff When Kyle Seibold heard that the New Iberia Senior High head baseball position was opening up, he couldn’t help but reflect back to his playing days. The interest and excitement he remembered from that community no matter which park they played in was enough to spark his interest to apply for the job left vacant by Gary Perkins’ departure. And it turned out to be a productive daydream, because he got the job as the Yellow Jackets’ new head baseball and assistant football coach. “The people there really care about baseball.” Seibold, 32, goes to New Iberia after two seasons under Brent Indest at Crowley High. Before that, he was an assistant coach at Carencro High from 1999-2004. “I liked Kyle right off the bat,” NISH head football coach Rick Hutson said. “First of all, I loved his enthusiasm. I liked the way he answered the questions. We also have the same philosophy about handling young people.” While Seibold considers himself fortunate that his first head coaching job would come at a 5A school, he isn’t blind to the challenge. “I realize that this is one of the top two or three districts in the state,” he said. “It’s not going to be easy and success may not come right away.
