I came to UL because I wanted to be close to home and when I came on my recruiting trip, I really enjoyed the girls. I wanted to play soccer at the next level and wanted to come to a place where I could grow and become better. That’s why I chose UL. When did you start playing soccer? When I was six. I was on the Cobras and we were hot pink. We were good. We were good, but there was a girl named Mallory and everyone always said, “Pass it to Mallory.” I wasn’t Mallory and I didn’t want to pass it to her. We won our league though. What is your fondest memory of playing soccer? Probably just the people that I have met. I have met some people that I will be friends with for the rest of my life. Another fond memory is the first time my team went to Regionals. I was 16 and we made it all the way to the semifinals. We were from Louisiana and no one even thought we would make it to Regionals so going to the semifinals was good. We got our butts kicked in the semifinals, but we still made it. That was awesome. Describe a typical practice… Tuesdays are our hardest practices so I will describe that. Tuesday, we will do probably about a 20-minute warm-up. Then we will do fitness for about 30 minutes if Coach is feeling nice, if not then we do it longer. Then we will train for about an hour and a half and then we will have a cool down. The fitness is usual like a team fitness where we run in groups of seven. It is never individual; everything is always a team. We will usually end with playing. Tuesday is the hardest though because that is the only day we do fitness. During the preseason, we do fitness everyday. What will you miss the most about playing soccer? Definitely not the running. Probably the glory of when you know you have succeeded. Or coming from behind and winning a match that no one thought you could win. Just the unexpectedness of it and the fact that anyone can win on any given day. I will miss that the most – and scoring goals of course. What will you miss the least about soccer? Running and running and the fitness test, which is running. Pretty much just running. That will be the only thing I won’t miss at all. I will still run, but I’m not going to miss it. What is the best thing about UL soccer? The best thing about UL soccer is the closeness of our team because a lot of teams fight. Our team is like a family, and most teams are like families. We don’t ever fight; we don’t have anybody who doesn’t like everybody; everybody gets along great. These are my sisters. That’s what I feel like. When you go into a match, you might not be the best team, but you play together the best, you can beat a team that has better talent, but doesn’t play well together. That is a really quality that most teams don’t have. What are your personal goals for your senior season? I do want to start. That has been my goal forever. I want to be a starter and I want to score goals – more goals than I scored last year. I only scored one goal. I want to raise my goal level a little bit higher and my playing time. I want to an asset. My main goal is to make sure I make a difference and I leave with people knowing who I was. Tell the story of how you got one visible scar… On my shin, I got a scar swimming. I was 12 and I jumped in off the diving board. I hit the little octopus thing down at the bottom. The thing that cleans the pool. I thought I died because I couldn’t feel my leg. That is the biggest scar I have. My bone was showing, it was that serious. I could not swim and I almost drowned. I don’t ever really get hurt or injured so no scars. That’s pretty much it. What was your favorite Halloween costume growing up? It wasn’t really when I was growing up, but me and Kerri [Luyties] dressed up like Nacho Libre and his sidekick. We dressed up like him last year. I know we are not young anymore, but we were Nacho Libre. It was awesome because it was completely homemade and no one was expecting it. What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given? The best piece of advice I have ever been given is don’t ever let anyone tell you, you aren’t good enough. If someone tells you that you aren’t good at this or this and you let yourself get down, you are not going to push yourself like you should to get better. You are the only person who can tell you, you aren’t good enough. Being a senior, what advice would you give to the underclassmen? Be ready! We have a lot of seniors and it is going to be tough this year. It is going to be hardcore; no excuses; no slacking. It is now or never. We have a good group of seniors and this is our last year. We are not going out losing. We are coming out blazing. I know that every single senior is going to do what it takes to be that next-level team. They will be ready though because we are going to prepare them. Just come in ready to play. If you could change wardrobes with anyone on your team, whose would it be and why? It would be probably Taunya [Geelhoed] because she has the most clothes. She has the most clothes and I don’t have a lot of clothes at all. We kind of dress the same. Not really, but close. Plus, she has a lot of cool stuff that you can only get in Canada. I do have some of her clothes already. I think I have some of her shirts, but don’t tell her I said that. Whose wardrobe would you not want? Probably Coach’s because he is a guy. Or Kerri because we kind of dress the same. Everybody else dresses pretty good. No! Taylor [Zak]! Because she wears pirate bandanas. I would not want to dress like that. She has white blue jeans with holes. You can put that in there and tell her I said it, ‘cause she knows. If you could compete in any other sport at UL what would it be? My number one choice would be softball because that’s the only other sport I have played when I was younger. I was really good at it. If not, then I would probably play golf because it’s the easiest. It’s not easy, but you don’t have any running at all and I don’t like to run, so I would probably play golf. When my soccer days are over, I want to… When my soccer days are over, I want to be normal. Because I am not normal. I have never been normal because we have never had time to be what normal college people are. We have the opportunity of a lifetime and I would never take it back, but I want to be able to do nothing. Sit at my apartment and do nothing. And sleep late. That’s another thing I want to do. How would you liked to be remembered? I would like to be remembered as a leader. I want people when they look at me to see the love of soccer that I have. I hope that inspires them to love soccer. I like to make people feel good about themselves. If I can make someone go from a bad mood to a good mood just once, I feel like I have done a good job. I also want to know that people know I left everything I had on the field – that I played with all my heart. No matter if you play five minutes or you play the whole match, while you are in there, you should give everything you have and leave it all out there. I hope that’s how people see me. Who has been the biggest influence on your life? Probably my parents. I love my parents, they are my best friends. If not a parent, I would pick my Aunt Missy because she understands me probably more than anybody ever understood me. She is kind of like my hero. She has gone through a lot of things. Through all the stuff she has been through and the sicknesses she has had, she is still the nicest person you will ever meet. She is the kind of person I want to be. No matter what I try to be positive and look at the glass as half full. I want to live like she did. What is the one possession you can’t live without? Probably tweezers. I use my tweezers all the time. I have to have tweezers. There are a lot of things I can’t live without. Most people would probably say a toothbrush or something like deodorant. I would say tweezers or my TV. When I am not doing soccer, I am watching TV. That is my hobby. Reality TV is my hobby. I am pretty good at it. What are your favorite TV shows? I could go on for an hour with all the shows I like. I will do the ones right now. First of all, American Idol is my number one favorite show. Right now I like: Top Chef, Hell’s Kitchen, that new Shaq show where he is getting the fat kids to lose weight. That is awesome; I love that. I love Workout. Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? I love because it makes me feel so stupid. CSI and House. Those are really my favorites. CSI, I could watch everyday for the rest of my life and be happy. Favorite movie about your sport… None of them, because they are all ridiculously stupid and fake. You see a football movie and it’s intense. They are hitting hard and practice is realistic. Every soccer movie I have ever seen has not been realistic. Bend It Like Beckham was ridiculous. The only one I could say, and it is not even my favorite, that was semi-realistic would be Goal. It is about a kid from Mexico who crosses the border and lives in L.A. who goes to England to play for Newcastle United. That is probably the most realistic because they actually showed practices where they were doing stuff real professional teams would do. They don’t make a lot of soccer movies and the ones they do make aren’t that good. Favorite Scot Wieland quote… He is going to be so mad at me for saying this. It is not a quote; it’s a word. When he says, “acrost” instead of across. I am pretty sure you spell it A-C-R-O-S-S, but he says it A-C-R-O-S-T. He yells it in the matches. “Acrost!” And nobody knows what he is talking about. My favorite quote is probably, “Eat ‘em up!” When you are running down the field and you don’t even have the ball, he will yell, “Eat ‘em up!” really loud. I don’t know why he says that or what I would eat or why I would eat up anything. He says it all the time and it makes no sense, but I think it is funny. Who is the funniest person on the team other than you and why? Obviously, there is no one funnier than me. The next one that is as funny as me is probably Kerri because she is so sarcastic. She is just really funny. Kerri is the funniest player after me, but I would also say Coach Jen [Gardner] give me a run for my money because she is hilarious. Kerri, Coach Jen…Erin Thompson is funny. She does funny things. A lot people are funny, but I am the best so that’s all you really need to know. One thing most people don’t know about you… That I am a neat freak. Not like crazy neat freak, but my apartment is spotless because I am always cleaning. A lot of people that aren’t on the soccer team don’t know that I like to film. I have made the soccer video the last three years. I like to a lot of filming when we aren’t on the field. I make a video and I like to edit videos and things like that. The soccer girls know that, but other people who don’t know me would probably never guess that. Most embarrassing moment on the soccer field… In high school, I was on a break-away about to score a goal and a girl pulled my pants down. Everyone saw my underwear. I pulled my pants up, shot it and missed because she pulled my pants down. That was probably the most embarrassing because everyone saw my panties. I was in high school so high school boys were there. If I did it here, I could just laugh it off, but in high school I was embarrassed. If someone did a movie about the Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team, what actress would play the role of you? To play me, I would pick either Molly Shannon or Wanda Sykes because they are hysterical. They are probably my favorite comedians. Or Goldie from Flavor of Love. She is funny. She could play me. If I could be a super hero, I would be… I have no idea. I would want to be invisible. That’s the first thing. I would want to be able to hear what everyone was saying about me. I would go and stand next to people and hear what they say about me. I would embarrass all the bad guys. I don’t know what my name would be though. It would have to be something dumb. I would want to be an invisible super hero though. Posted July 25, 2007 – – – – – – –
