Grand Coteau – Visitation for Mrs. Julie Ann Brinkhaus Olivier will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau, followed by a Catholic Mass at 11:00 a.m. A Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery. Fr. Dennis Reilly will celebrate the Mass, and Fr. Hernando Ramirez, S. J. will concelebrate.

Mrs. Julie Ann Brinkhaus Olivier was a native and lifelong resident of Sunset. She passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015, at Lafayette General Medical Center at the age of 85. She was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and had a strong Catholic faith. Julie Ann Brinkhaus Olivier graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart and Southwest Louisiana Institute in Lafayette. She worked as an art teacher for many years at Sunset High School. Earlier in her career, she taught at Brusly High School, and was a part-time reporter for the Daily World. During her husband’s 44 years of service as mayor of Sunset, Julie Ann proudly stood by his side as his most ardent supporter. Throughout her life, she enjoyed reading, playing cards with friends and family, painting, traveling and entertaining. Most recently, she cherished her visits with relatives and friends, especially her grandchildren. Julie Ann will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Julie Ann Brinkhaus Olivier was a positive force in the Sunset and Grand Coteau communities. She fulfilled her mother’s dream of opening a library in Sunset, as well as being a Board Member of the Library. In recognition for all of her work with the Sunset Library, she received a Special Recognition Award from the State Library of Louisiana. She was also honored with the Sunset Sertoma Club Service to Mankind Award for 1984-1985. Julie Ann was a docent at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, the Alumni Board President, and a Board of Trustees member for the National Academy of the Sacred Heart. She was awarded the ”Bon Amis” Award from the Academy of the Sacred Heart. Many of her memberships included the Sunset Garden Club, the Ladies’ Auxiliary, Equestrian Order of Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, and the Catholic Daughters of the American Revolution. She was one of the initiators of the Twinning of St. Paul En Cornillon, France with Sunset. She was an instrumental volunteer with the Meals on Wheels Program in Sunset.

Julie Ann is survived by her husband of 63 years, John L. Olivier of Sunset; two sons, John T. Olivier and wife, Terri Seeman Olivier of New Orleans; and Francis ”Frank” A. Olivier, III and wife, Mary Gaylean Olivier of Opelousas; two daughters, Denise Olivier Daigle and husband, Thomas of Lafayette; and Yvonne Olivier of Prairie de Femme; son-in-law, Henry Hample of Grand Coteau; two brothers, Armand Brinkhaus and wife, Margaret of Sunset; and Allen Brinkhaus of Sunset; one sister, Anna Jane Gaiennie Miller of Lafayette; sister-in-law, Diane Brinkhaus of Sunset; and eight grandchildren, Franco Olivier and wife, Molly; Jeffery Olivier, Emily Olivier Kesler and husband, Tyler; Kathryn Daigle, Allie Olivier, John Daigle, Armand Olivier, and Quentin Olivier.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Armand L. Brinkhaus and Julia Thoms Brinkhaus; daughter, Miriam Olivier; brother, William ”Bill” Brinkhaus, sister-in-law, Loretta Brinkhaus; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Gaiennie, Roderick Miller.

Special thanks to her caregivers: Regina Devaney, Daphne Lavergne, Nelda Fisher, Laurie Cormier, and Shirley Summers.

Pallbearers will be Frank Olivier, John T. Olivier, Jeffrey Olivier, Franco Olivier, John Daigle, Armand Olivier, and Quentin Olivier.
