Joy Webre enters her second season at her alma mater as an assistant coach for Louisianas Ragin Cajuns softball program. Counting her four years as a student-athlete, this will be Webres sixth season overall being involved with the program.

The leader of the Ragin Cajuns softball team as a student-athlete from 2002-2005 that advanced to the 2003 Womens College World Series, she rejoined the program as an assistant coach last season. In her first season as a collegiate assistant coach she earned a return trip to Oklahoma City as the Ragin Cajuns appeared in the 2008 WCWS.

The Lafayette native plays an integral role in the Cajuns offensive and defensive systems. Offensively, she calls the pitches fittingly so since she called the pitchers while starting at catcher for UL during her playing days and assists co-head coach Stefni Lotief in the bullpen. On defense, Webres primary responsibilities include working with the Cajuns catchers and outfielders.

Off the field, Webre assists with the strength and conditioning program and plays an integral part in the Ragin Cajuns recruiting efforts, in addition to assisting with many administrative duties. She also oversees the coordination and implementation of Louisianas softball camps.

As a Student-Athlete at Louisiana

Webre played for Louisiana from 2002 through 2005 and was a member of co-head coaches Michael and Stefni Lotiefs first-ever recruiting class. She was the battery mate for record setting All-American pitcher Brooke Mitchell and played a significant role in Mitchells record breaking career.

Webre started every game for UL during her four-year career a total of 248 games. She was part of the 2004 team which went 18-0 in Sun Belt play and remains the only UL team to run the table in SBC play.

She left her mark throughout the UL record books. She finished in the top five for most games played (248) and holds the career record for putouts with 1,818. Her 2,004 total chances is tops in the Cajuns annals. She completed her career with a .990 fielding percentage, tying her for third-best in school history.

Webre had two seasons with double-digit homeruns and ended her career with 34 round-trippers. She also tied for second place all-time with 16 sacrifice flies.

Webre was a member of the Sun Belt Honor Roll in 2001-2002 and the Sun Belt Commissioners List in 2002-2003. On the field she was an All-Louisiana selection in 2002 and was named to the All-Sun Belt first team. In 2003, she was an All-Louisiana second team pick. During her senior season, Webre was an All-Sun Belt first team member after hitting 10 doubles, nine home runs and driving in 36 runs to go along with her excellent defensive play behind the plate.

Putting the Team First

Webre came into the Ragin Cajuns softball program as an All-State shortstop. After having a brief conversation with co-head coach Michael Lotief about the teams need for a catcher she was ready and willing to assume the catching responsibilities.

Through hard work and dedication she worked her way into the record books for the Cajuns despite playing at a position she wasnt accustomed to playing. She was very unselfish and always put the team first.

Prior to Louisiana

Webre was a four year letterwinner and All-State selection in softball at Denham Springs High School. She played summer ball for many years with the Louisiana Patriots.

In high school she was also president of the Anchor Club and Mu Alpha Theta. She served as vice-president of her senior class.

Personal

Webre earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from UL in 2005.She is the daughter of Chuck and Katrina Webre and has two younger brothers, Tyler and Peyton, and two younger sisters, Hope and Paige.
