John W Lewis played football for the S.L.I. Bulldogs in 1917*, 1918 and 1919. On Oct.6, in the 1917 season against L.S.U., “Johnny” scored the very first touchdown ever against L.S.U. He transferred to LSU and played Right End in 1920 and 1921. Lewis played a total of five years college football.

John W Lewis (b.1900 – d.1976) was the son of J.W. Lewis, Sr. and a prominent family of Opelousas. “Johnny” resided in Lafayette and retired after serving as an agent for All American Insurance.
