Dr. Guillory is a proud graduate of Plaucheville High School. An all-around athlete in high school, he graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1964 with a degree in Audiology and Science Education.

Over the next two decades, Jim studied at LSU, Baton Rouge, where he earned a Master’s degree in Audiology and Speech Pathology in 1966; Tulane University; Vanderbilt University; Southwest Missouri State; University of Utah, Georgia Tech and the University of Texas. He earned his doctorate in Audiology from the University of Florida in 2000, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Prior to earning his doctorate in Audiology at the University of Florida, Jim earned his doctorate in Environmental Health and Safety in December, 1986 from Southwest Missouri State.

His university appointments included adjunct assistant professor at LSU for six years in the environmental services programs and the University of Florida Audiology Doctoral Program for four years.

Jim served as an educator, owned and operated his own businesses, served in various governmental capacities for the State of Louisiana and was a community volunteer in a variety clubs and organizations.

Two family-owned businesses were founded by Jim and Christine, Mobile Health Services and an occupational environmental health services company. Both companies were designed to provide health and safety services, as well as environmental health remediation programs to offshore and onshore industrial companies. The client service area of six Southern state consisted of multifaceted types of companies and public/governmental facilities requiring OSHA compliance initiatives needed in the safety, health, and environmental programs (30 years).

Jim served as the Senior State Audiologist for the Louisiana Department of Health from 1968-71 and as a Regional Hearing & Communicative Disorders Consultant in 14 Northeast Louisiana parishes domiciled in the Monroe Regional Office from 1966 to 1968. Dr. Guillory also served as a consultant audiologist for Dr. Donna Breen, M.D.ENT practice, Marksville, LA and semi-retired.

He was a faculty member of the Audiology Department of the University of Southwestern Louisiana from 1975-80.

In 1984, I purchased several hundred acres of pasture land and began a Beefmaster and Red Angus cattle operation called the Diamond G Farms. The first cattle purchases were from my father-in-law, Lincoln Bordelon, and pure-blooded Beefmaster males and females from Dr. Gaston Louis Coussan. Dr. Coussan had recently retired as Dean of Education from USL and had his cattle operation on his birthplace in Carencro, La. This became the foundation of my herd.

Throughout the following 31 years, Red Angus bulls from Alabama and Missouri, as well as Beefmaster bulls from Lake Charles, Alexandria, Mississippi and Texas, were used as replacements. The gene pool was changed and improved every three years. This approach resulted in purebred and commercial herd of mixed Red Angus and pureblood Beefmaster cattle. The dramatic improvement of the quality of the cattle was a planned goal and ultimately a positive outcome. The business operation enabled this family endeavor to produce quality cattle for buyers, who could base their purchases on varied genetic histories.

Many of the pureblooded Beefmaster females were sold to students in 4-H who wanted to show them. A few were awarded grand champion or reserve grand champion status in recent parish and state-wide competition. Two were selected to participate at the national level and were recognized in the Top Ten percent of the Beefmaster breed category.

Widely respected as a community leader, Jim donated his time, effort, and resources to various clubs and boards in Lafayette and Avoyelles Parish, culminating with him serving two terms on the Avoyelles Parish School Board and one term on the Avoyelles Parish Police Jury. His involvement and leadership in civic and community affairs spans the Lafayette area and Avoyelles.

Jim and Christine have two sons, John and Cayle (younger), as well as two grandsons, Kade (14 years) and Lincoln (7 years)and two daughters-in-law. John is self-employed and Cayle is an administrator of two rural hospitals owned by the Louisiana Health Care Group domiciled in Lafayette.

While it would be impractical to list all of Jim’s accomplishments and involvements in this profile, it is sufficient to state, that Jim was a man of industry (he worked hard to improve life for his fellow man),a man of vision (he started and developed ideas and businesses which were far-reaching and unprecedented, a man of accomplishment (he not only moved on ideas, he brought them over the finish line), a man of courage (he moved on his convictions regardless of who had opposing points of view), and a man who was respectful and empathetic of others (he elevated those with whom he worked and shared ideas in a most respectful manner).

I am pleased to submit this overview of a few of Jim’s many accomplishments, so others may realize why he is such a valued friend and an outstanding person.

Peace, Ed Dugas
