Roethele Football Camp in Kenner to benefit Greg Lewis Family

Former captain of the USL 1983 Football Team, Dr. Jim Roethele is hosting a football camp to benefit the family of Greg Lewis. Greg helped Jim Roethele coach the 6&7 year old football team at Woodlake playground in Kenner Louisiana before his untimely death at age 34, leaving behind 3 boys ages 2,4 and 7. The football camp will hopefully be the first of an annual event. Dr. Roethele is making a plea to his former teammates to volunteer some time to help coach the same great principles of teamwork and discipline that he learned at USL under coach Sam Robertson and his individual defensive back coach and defensive coordinator, Coach Dave Dunkelberger. He is also looking for former USL athletes that will serve as celebrities to give brief comments that will inspire these young campers to work and study hard to achieve success.

Dr. Jim commented:

When Greg and I discussed the idea of a football camp we wanted to give our boys an opportunity to understand each position so they would appreciate the role of every member of the team. Therefore, in Greg’s memory, the 1st Annual Greg Lewis Football Camp will be a one day event where every camper will learn the fundamentals and techniques at each position on the field. This way they will become well rounded and knowledgeable of the game of football and will be able to communicate with and understand their teammates. Our coaches will set a good example of sportsmanship, hard work, discipline and concentration. We will have some successful athletes and coaches from around the city coaching giving their personal stories for inspiration.

The goal of the camp is to have fun while learning the elements of teamwork and success. The campers will go home exhausted, but will have plenty of information that they can build on at home, in the classroom and on the field.

We look forward to making this a successful camp that will inspire our athletes to continue to compete in athletic programs in the city of Kenner to the local high school ranks of the city and beyond. All with the memory of Greg Lewis and his family in our hearts.

The camp will be a one day event, rain or shine for boys 6-15 years of age from 8:30 – 4:30, Saturday July 21st. Jim can be contacted by e-mail jim@roetheledental.com for volunteers or registration forms.
