Dr. James M. Griffin

CROWLEY – A Mass of Christian Burial for Dr. James M. Griffin, 76, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2006, in Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.

The Reverends Louis Richard and Gary Schexnayder will concelebrate the Mass and the graveside services at Woodlawn Cemetery.

The rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. today.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Broussard Griffin; two sons, Michael Griffin and his wife, Mary, of Canton, Ga., and Richard Griffin, of Crowley; two daughters, Ruth Barbier and her husband, Charles, of Iota, La., and Sharon Saia and her husband, Benny, of Gonzales, La.; nine grandchildren, Margaret, Timothy and Daniel Griffin, Jennifer and Emily Barbier, Catherine B. Johnson, Kevin, Christy and Nicholas Saia; a sister, Virginia Griffin Graves and her husband, Bill, of Madison, Miss.; a brother-in-law, Harry Beardsley, of Warner Robbins, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dr. Griffin was a member of Saint Michael Catholic Church. A 1947 graduate of Crowley High School, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute, Northwestern and New York University. He was a dedicated teacher, coach and administrator in Acadia Parish for 30 plus years and ended his teaching career at McNeese State University.

He was a member of American Legion Post 15, Crowley Rotary Club, American Association of School Administrators, Louisiana Association of School Superintendents – Retired, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, The Football Letterman “S” Club at USL and the Crowley Art Association.

Visitation may be observed from 3 p.m. today until 10 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until time of services.

The family requests donations be made to LA hospice and Palliative Care of Jennings, LA.
