Holly Tankersley was named NFCA Leadoff Classic Most Outstanding Player.

COLUMBUS, Ga.-Holly Tankersley (Kirbyville, Texas) was named the Most
Outstanding Player for the 2008 NFCA Leadoff Classics. Katie Smith (Ruston,
La.) was also named to the All-Tournament team.

Tankersley had an outstanding tournament offensively.

For the week, Tankersley batted .412, going 7-for-17. She blasted three home
runs in five games. Tankersley drove in a team best seven runs on the week,
while scoring four runs. She had a .941 slugging percentage.

Tankersley hit safely in four of the five games the Cajuns played this
weekend.

Against No. 23 North Carolina, Tankersley was responsible for six of the
Ragin’ Cajuns’ seven runs. She finished the game 3-for-4 with five RBI and
two runs scored.

Tankersley was joined on the All-Tournament team by Smith.

Smith finished the weekend with a .667 batting average, going 6-for-9 in the
tournament. She drew four walks on the weekend, including a pair of free
passes against Iowa. Smith was the only Ragin’ Cajuns player to reach base
safely in all five games on the week.

Smith scored three runs and stole two bases. She had a perfect fielding
percentage in seven chances in the outfield.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced their 2007 South All-Region First and Second Teams and Louisiana�s Ragin� Cajuns softball player Holly Tankersley was named to the first team.

This is the second NFCA All-South Region honor for Tankersley, as she garnered the award in her freshman year in 2004.

The junior designated player leads the team in virtually every offensive category.

Tankersley, a USA Softball Top 25 Finalist for Player of the Year, leads the team in batting average (.405), home runs (18), RBI (61), slugging percentage (.746) and on-base percentage (.517).

Tankersley is currently third all-time in UL history with 48 career home runs, 111 walks and 24 hit-by-pitches.

She has also compiled a 12-5 record in the pitching circle for the Cajuns in 2007.

Tankersley was named a finalist for the 2007 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award the Amateur Softball Association, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States.

This award, which is considered one of the most prestigious honors in women’s collegiate softball, is designed to recognize outstanding athletic achievement by female collegiate softball players across the country and the Kirbyville, Texas native has done just that.

Tankersley, who has won the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week Award four times this season, led the Cajuns in all major hitting categories.

2006: Returned to the field after taking a redshirt in 2005…Started 46 games as the designated player…Finished the season with the second-best batting average (.339)…Had 10 multi-hit games and 12 multi-RBI games…Her nine home runs increased her career total to 30…Sported a .606 slugging percentage and .497 on-base percentage…Through the first 18 games, was hitting .525 with five home runs and 22 RBI…Despite missing nearly three weeks of play (11 games total) managed to end the year with 43 RBI and 43 base hits…Drew 18 walks in the first month of the season (13 games)…Hit .450 with runners in scoring position…Saw limited time in Sun Belt play as injury caused her to miss seven games…Hit a grand slam and drove in a season-high five runs in the win over UNLV at the Judi Garman Classic…Made one appearance in the pitching circle tossing 2 2/3 innings of relief against No. 4 Texas at the Garman Classic.

2004: Named to the 2004 NFCA All-South Region First Team as a utility player…First Team All-Sun Belt member and Sun Belt Freshman of the Year…Named Louisiana Freshman of the Year…Led the Ragin� Cajuns and Sun Belt with 21 home runs � a tally which broke Danyele Gomez�s single-season and freshman records for home runs…Established the new home run record in the Cajuns 5-0 win over No. 1 Arizona in the NCAA Regional semifinal…Hit the record-setting blast off of USA Softball Player of the Year Finalist Alicia Hollowell…Four-time Sun Belt Conference Hitter of the Week…Had 13 multiple-hit and 11 multiple RBI games…Became the second freshman in as many years to hit double-digit home runs. (Danyele Gomez had 20 in 2003)..Led the team with 44 walks, breaking the school single-season record of 41 set by Stephanie DeFeo in 1997…Was walked at least twice in a single game 12 times…Led the team with a .326 average, six doubles, six home runs and 15 RBI in Sun Belt play…Hit .434 for the month of May (23-for-53) with eight home runs, 20 RBI and a .962 slugging percentage…Started the Cajuns� first elimination game at the NCAA Regional in Tucson and tossed a career-high 10 strikeouts against Temple…Overall ERA was 1.36 and had four complete games to her credit � all while doubling as a hitter…In 72 innings of work, surrendered just 49 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 56…In Sun Belt play, went 6-0 and allowed just six earned runs in 34 2/3 innings…Went 3-1 with a 0.26 ERA over 26 2/3 innings while filling in for an injured Brooke Mitchell April 19-25…Collected three wins and one save in the Cajuns four-game sweep of North Texas.
