Obituary: Heloise Thibodeaux Neef – Red Jackets 1946 & 47 – July 20, 2014

Heloise T. Neef – August 24, 1927 – July 20, 2014

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at a 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lafayette for Heloise Thibodeaux Neef, age 86, who died on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.

Reverend Patrick Broussard will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Lectors will be Stephanie Neef and Christopher Neef. Gift bearers will be Sean Neef, Nathan Neef, and Blake Neef. Rachel Gaspard, cantor, accompanied by Keith D’Anna, organist, will sing for the services, “How Great Thou Art,” “Swing Low Sweet Chariot,” “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord, God Almighty,” and “Ave Maria.”

Entombment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Survivors include her four sons, Jimmie Neef, Jr. and his wife Florinda of Lafayette; Steve Neef and his wife Nita of Lafayette; Robert “Bob” Neef and his wife Issey of Houston; and Matt Neef of Houston; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her late husband of nearly sixty-three years, James R. Neef, Sr., her parents, Joseph M. Thibodeaux and Edna L. Thibodeaux, and her brother Carrol Thibodeaux.

Heloise Thibodeaux Neef was born in Delcambre, Louisiana on August 24, 1927. For a short time while she was very young they lived in Bayou Lafourche, but returned to Delcambre where she remained until she moved to Lafayette upon entering college at Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now ULL). After graduating from SLI with a major in Elementary Education she taught school for a time in Delcambre and later taught at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School. In 1988 she retired from the teaching profession. Heloise’s entire life revolved around her faith and her family as she was a committed disciple of Jesus Christ. For many years she had the privilege of being very involved in her church and some of its ministries through Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Parish, including Eucharistic Minister to the sick and helping to promote the Eternal Word Television Network. She also was blessed with the opportunity to participate in a number of pilgrimages to Europe.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Neef, David Neef, Sean Neef, Nathan Neef, Blake Neef, and Andre LeBlanc. Honorary pallbearers will be her sons, Jimmie Neef, Jr., Steve Neef, Bob Neef, and Matt Neef.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Delhomme’s Funeral Home Lafayette and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of services. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 6:30 PM in the funeral home, preceded by a eulogy given by Theresa Neef.
