Gerald Begnaud Sr. (1924 – 2011)

SIMMESPORT – Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. June 20, 2011 at the Begnaud Family Cemetery in Simmesport, LA.

Mr.Begnaud passed away peacefully at his home in Simmesport, LA.

A native of Vatican, LA he was a 1941 graduate of Carencro High School. He attended SLI (Now UL) on a Tennis Scholarship. After joining the Marine Corps during WWII he was sent to Officers Candidate School at the University of North Carolina. While at UNC, he was a member of the track team. Upon his return from military service, Gerald started Begnaud Seafood Company in Freeport and Rockport, Texas, operating numerous Shrimp boats. He later founded Begnaud Marine Service operating offshore work boats.

Gerald lived on (The Ranch) in Simmesport until his death. The owner and operator of Begnaud Land and cattle Company, he loved raising Cattle, riding his tractor and tending his property.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy M. Begnaud; his son Gerald P. Begnaud, Jr. and wife Lucy of Lafayette; his daughter Charleen B. Gremillion and husband Maxie of Missouri City, Texas; 2 step children, 5 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alcidus Begnaud and Sarah Prejean Begnaud and his brother Roy Joseph Begnaud.

Pallbearers honored to serve are Paul Gremillion, Joe Esch, Steven Gremillion, Geoff Begnaud, Chris Helverston and Cleveland (June) Gibson.

Interment was in the Begnaud Family Cemetary under the direction of Escude Funeral Home of Simmesport, LA.
