Francis Boucher Delhomme

LAFAYETTE – Funeral Services will be held at a 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Francis Boucher Delhomme, 78, who passed away on Easter Sunday morning at his residence.

Reverend Mike Champagne will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Con-celebrant will be Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Pastor of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

Entombment will take place in St. John Cemetery.

Mr. Delhomme, a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, was the son of the late Francis Felix Delhomme of Lafayette, Louisiana and the former Alice Boucher of Washington, Louisiana. Francis was a 1951 graduate of Lafayette High School where he played 6 man football, ran track and met his future wife of 58 years, Billie Mouton. He later attended and graduated from the Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now the University of Louisiana) in Business Administration. While at S.L.I. , he was a student in the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corp. After college Mr. Delhomme enlisted in the United States Air Force, attained the rank of Captain and learned to fly. He was very proud of the time he spent learning the assets of the Beechcraft T-34 Mentor and AT-7, the North American T-284 Trainer, and his favorite the North American B-25 Mitchell. After five years of service to his country Francis was honorably discharged from the Air Force. After his Air Force service, he returned to Lafayette and went into the family business, Delhomme Funeral Home, where he worked as a Funeral Director until his death. He was a past member of the Flying Funeral Directors, a proud Life member of the Lafayette Kiwanis Club, past Kiwanian of the Year ( where he was known as “two question Francis”), he served as Commissioner on the Lafayette Bayou Vermilion District, past Commissioner/Secretary-Treasurer of the Lafayette Municipal Airport Commission, member of the Louisiana Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, and was very proud to be a Notary Public.Francis was an avid supporter of the University Of Louisiana Athletics. He never missed a football or basketball game and enjoyed tailgating with friends and family. The University can take solace in the fact that he will never again call to complain about “changing the name” or “bringing back the Bulldog”, he loved the “Ragin Cajuns”.

He is survived by his wife Billie Mouton Delhomme; his daughters, Desiree Huggins and husband, Mike, Daphne Landry and husband Richard, Deidre Montgomery and husband Dr. Thomas Montgomery all of Lafayette and Dawn Bourg and husband, Kevin of Alpharetta, GA; his son, Duane Delhomme and wife, Sandra of Lafayette; thirteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and his sister, Daphne James of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rene D. Delhomme.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm and continue Wednesday, from 8:00 am to time of services. A rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Landry, Jacob Landry, Damian Delhomme, Forrest Montgomery, Carver Montgomery, Zachary Bourg, Dione Leger, and Dana Perry.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to The Carmelite Ministry, 1250 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA 70501 or Hospice of Acadiana Foundation, 2600 Johnston Street, Ste. 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.
