Home Phone: 337-233-1974 Obituary: Elix Decoux A celebration of a life well lived will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 3:00 pm in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Elix Decoux who made his trip to heaven on December 22, 2012 at 11:00 pm from his residence. He was just days short of his 99th birthday. Reverend Ed Degeyter will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Decoux, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Joseph Decoux and the former Olivia Baudoin, both of Youngsville, Louisiana. Our Daddy was a true Southern gentleman. He was kind, gentle and very generous with his family. He entered SLI and played football, both on offense and defense. After graduating, he served in the United States Army fighting at Okinawa in WWII. He returned to Lafayette with his bride, Janice McDaniel, of Gulfport, MS. They were members of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He served as the office manager and later became the dealer at Evangeline Motor Co. His daughters and granddaughters accompanied him on all LADA conventions each summer. For many years he enjoyed his Saturday morning golf game where he played at either Oakbourne Country Club or Acadian Hills. He was an avid fan and supporter of USL and later UL football. Many cold winter mornings found him at the duck camp in Gueydan. He always teased his family that it “never got cold in the duck blindsâ€. Our family will treasure all of our wonderful memories. He is survived by two daughters; Shirley Anne Decoux of Lafayette, LA and Theresa Decoux Fernandez of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren, Carrie-Anne Carpenter of Baton Rouge, LA, Dorothy Carpenter Sauvinet of Alexandria, VA, Melissa Fernandez Breunig of Austin, TX and Emily Fernandez Allison of Mansfield, TX; two great-grandchildren, Peyton Allison and Charles Allison; and one sister, Lillie Mae Viator. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice M. Decoux; his parents; four sisters, Lydia Gary, Anna Gerac, Elite Baudoin and Rita Decoux; and five brothers, Clarence, Francis, Theodule, Martin and Wilfred Decoux. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 9:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home Thursday at 12:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Tony Fernandez, Jimmy Decoux, Richard Hebert, Doug Begneaud, Jessie Viator and David Storey. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Baudoin and Doug Anderson. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice Compassus and Mr. Decoux’s compassionate caregivers, Ida Credeur, Alice Ainsworth and Agnes Kilchrist.
