Home Phone: -- Jan. 24, 2016 Tim Buckley, The Advertiser, January 24, 2016 UL junior running back and 2014 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year Elijah McGuire, who joined the Ragin’ Cajuns basketball team early last week, made his debut for coach Bob Marlin’s club in Saturday night’s 88-65 win over Troy. He didn’t score – didn’t even take a shot in his five minutes played – but did record a steal. “We put Elijah in (in the first half) to get the crowd going on purpose – it worked – and let him shake a little bit of rust off,†Marlin said of McGuire, a guard who handled the point and played all of his minutes with another point on the floor, either regular starting point guard Jay Wright or reserve Matt Marlin. “Defensively he certainly can (help),†the Cajun coach added. “He’s a great athlete. … He just wants to help us win.†McGuire, who wore No. 25, didn’t dress for Thursday night’s win over South Alabama.
