March 10, 2013

LAFAYETTE – Bootie Arceneaux, 80, of Lafayette, Louisiana, passed away on February 23, 2013 at Lafayette General Medical Center. A memorial service will be held March 16 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA at 11:00am. The Very Reverend Monsignor Robie Robicheaux, JCL, VJ will officiate at the services. Her body was donated to LSU Bureau of Anatomical Services in New Orleans. Cremated remains will be laid to rest in the family tomb in St. John’s Cemetery in Lafayette. Bootie was born on October 2, 1932 in Lafayette, LA to her parents, the late Oscar and Earllean Hebert. Bootie graduated from Mt. Carmel High School, Abbeville, LA in 1951 and in May, 1955 she graduated from SLI (now University of Louisiana) with a degree in Music Education (piano and voice).

It was in college that her beauty and charm captured the heart of a class mate, Jack Arceneaux. From that moment, they became inseparable. Bootie and Jack were married October 1, 1955. The two hearts grew over the years to become one heart. Bootie and Jack have 5 children, Jack, Kim, Kelly, Shelley and Greg. They always felt so blessed with “the gang”. Jack and Bootie renewed their wedding vows at Our Lady of Fatima on their 25th anniversary with Monsignor Sigur officiating and their children present. On October 1, 1985, Fr. Roy Edwards officiated at the 30th anniversary renewal of their marriage vows with their children present. Fr Edwards was the celebrant for their original wedding day. On October 1, 2005 Bootie and Jack celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at St. Mary Church with their children and grandchildren present. The Very Reverend Monsignor Robie Robicheaux officiated at the renewal of their marriage vows with a Mass. Her sons escorted their mother down the aisle to her husband Jack and they were joined by her daughter Kim (matron of honor) and Kim’s husband Bill (best man). This remained as one of the many highlights of their love for one another. The photographer captured that ever present love in each picture that was taken. Her husband Jack always personally felt that theirs was the greatest love story.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years Jack, a son Jack and his wife Doreen, a daughter Kim and her husband Bill, a son Kelly and his wife Pam, a son Gregory and his wife Tiffany. She has 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly, as well as, her brother Jay who was so very special and close to her heart, and his wife Barbara, a brother-in-law Benjamin “Dave” Davidson, and 27 nieces and nephews.

Bootie was preceded in death by a daughter Shelley Loraine, parents Oscar and Earllean Hebert, her sisters Yvonne “Cookie” Hebert, Grace Prince, and Emma Davidson. and a brother-in-law Doyle Prince.

Messages of condolence may be sent to her husband Jack, at his email, jazzycajun@bellsouth.net
