Dorothy Cecilia Franques Bordelon

Opelousas – A Mass of Christian Burial with traditional Latin Hymns will be celebrated for Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Franques Bordelon at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 23, 2012, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, La. Rite of Committal will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, La. with Reverend Monsignor Jefferson DeBlanc, of Church Point, La., as Celebrant. Mrs. Bordelon, age 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2012, with her family in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Mrs. Bordelon was living in Montgomery County, Maryland, near her daughter Jane and her son-in-law, David Berteau. She was born on June 9, 1919, in Church Point, LA, to the late Bernard (Ben) Baldwin Franques and Eunice Dejean Franques. Ben Franques was the Opelousas Postmaster and local businessman, and Eunice was the senior math teacher at Opelousas High School. Dorothy graduated in 1940 from SLI, now the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, where she was a member of Delta Theta Sigma, lettered each year for the basketball team, and was homecoming queen in 1938. She taught English and French and coached girl’s basketball at Lawtell High School, followed by Social Work at the courthouse in Opelousas. She was married to Warren Bordelon in Opelousas in 1943. She was involved in her much loved Women’s Service League, which did so much to enrich Opelousas. She enjoyed volunteering in scouts and school activities at AIC. She will be remembered as a truly good and loving mother who set a high standard for the rest of her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Bernard Bordelon, of Opelousas, LA, and her daughter, Jane Bordelon Berteau, and her husband, David John Berteau of Washington, DC, as well as four grandchildren, Stefan Andre Berteau of Boston, MA, Celeste Danielle Berteau of Washington, DC, Jacqueline Bordelon Wilson and her husband, Geoffrey Layne Wilson, of Baton Rouge, LA and Laure Marie Bordelon of Lafayette, LA., and one great-granddaughter, Caroline Cecilia Wilson of Baton Rouge, LA.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren James Bordelon, Sr., and her eldest son Warren James (Jim) Bordelon, Jr.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, beginning on Sunday, July 22, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday until service time at 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.
