Lafayette’s Morgan Landry led a total of four Acadiana golfers finishing in the top 15 Sunday in the final round of the Louisiana Golf Association’s 87th State Amateur Championship.
Landry finished with an even-par 72 Sunday over the 7,100-yard par-72 Country Club of Louisiana layout in Baton Rouge, and his two-under 286 four-round score was good for a tie for seventh in the state’s premier amateur event.

Landry’s UL squad teammates Michael Smith and B. C. Thibeaux, also from Lafayette, both finished at 291 to tie for 15th with St. Martinville’s John Talley.

Shreveport’s Jason Kuperman made up three shots on Covington’s Tommy Brennan in the final round, and then rolled in a six-foot birdie putt on the par-four 18th hole to win the title by one stroke. Kuperman, a member of the UNO golf team, posted a bogey-free six-under 66 in Sunday’s final round and finished the four rounds at 13-under 275.
Brennan, runner-up in the event for the fourth time, was at 276, while Larry Daigle of Port Allen was third (279) and Andrew Loupe and Chris Wells of Baton Rouge tied for fourth at 280. Loupe, the 2005 LGA Junior Amateur champion, had Sunday’s low round and tied Brennan’s opening round for the low round of the tournament with an eight-under 64.

Kuperman and Brennan, playing in the final threesome, both found the green with their second shots on the 18th. Brennan, one down coming to the final hole, rolled in a 20-foot birdie to temporarily tie for the lead before Kuperman made his winning putt.

Landry staged a rally in Sunday’s front nine after a 74 Saturday, posting three birdies on the front side before struggling with three bogeys on the back. He tied with Gayle Sanchez and Kristopher Novak, both of Baton Rouge, for seventh.

Thibeaux carded a one-under 71 Sunday after a 69 on Saturday, posting four birdies and three bogeys Sunday.

Lafayette’s Dudley Bienvenu finished tied for 22nd at 294, Kenley Jones of New Iberia was 30th at 297, Dennis Smith of Lafayette finished 31st at 298 and former State Amateur champion Robert Shelton of Lafayette finished tied for 32nd at 299. The top 40 finishers are exempt into the field for next year’s State Amateur, to be played at the TPC of Louisiana course in Avondale.
