Obituary:

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Craig Michael Fontenot, 38, who died on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte.

Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Reverend Joshua Guillory, Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Winnetta Powell and Cindy Cenac. Giftbearers will be Meagan Young and Meagan McDonald. Rachel Gaspard, cantor, accompanied by Andre Courville, organist, will play “How Great Thou Art”, “Ave Maria”, “The Lord’s Prayer” and “On Eagles’ Wings” for the services.

Survivors include his parents, Paul Nathan & Jerrylene Trahan Fontenot; two sisters, Maria Fontenot Kirkland and her husband William of Knoxville, TN and Greta Fontenot Richard and her husband Joey of Rayne; one brother, Dr. Eric Fontenot of Lafayette; and his maternal grandmother, Enola LeBoeuf Trahan of Houma.

A native of Ville Platte and a resident of Katy, TX, Craig was a member of the Church of the Epiphany in Katy, TX, graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Ville Platte in 1992 and graduated from USL (now ULL) in 1998. He was pole vaulter on the USL Track & Field Team and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He graduated from UNO (University of New Orleans) in 2005 and later became employed with Spark Energy as an accountant in Houston, TX. He was a member of the ULL Alumni Association and enjoyed ULL Athletics. Craig will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Eric Fontenot, William Kirkland, Joey Richard, Al Hebert, Gordon Fontenot and Brandon McDonald.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Friday, May 18, 2012 from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM and on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed on Friday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

Special thanks to his brother, Dr. Eric Fontenot; Craig’s girlfriend, Kristine Blalock; and his neighbor, Judy Wagner. Also thanks to the Doctors and staff of Mischer Neuroscience Associates at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, TX and all of the Spark Energy employees.
