Courtney Simmons enters her second season with
Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball season and
her first as UL’s recruiting coordinator. Simmons came to
the Cajuns after finishing her collegiate basketball career at
Louisville in 2008.
While at Louisville, Simmons served as a camp counselor
for Louisville’s women’s basketball camps. As a counselor,
she supervised approximately 20 campers per day, while
developing specific drills for the participants and monitoring
the dormitories during overnight camps.
Simmons also worked in the Housing and Residence Life
Office while at Trinity Valley Community College. Simmons
oversaw approximately 30 students daily, maintaining the
cleanliness of the dormitory and assisting the students with
any and all problems.
In addition, Simmons coached the Bayou Flames Girls 12
and Under AAU Basketball Team in Gonzales, La. She served
as the top assistant and coordinated travel arrangements
for all 16 players and coached. Simmons also assisted the
head coach with developing plays and assisted the assistant
coach with player statistics.
Simmons is fluent in sign language and volunteered at
the 2007 Mini Deaf Olympics. She also volunteered at the
2007 Scotlandville Alumni Associations Basketball Clinic,
and the 2003 and 2006 Southland Girls All Star Basketball
Camp.
Simmons played two seasons at Louisville, with a year
at Trinity Valley Community College and two seasons at
Tulane.
Simmons played in 30 of the Cardinals 36 games in her
final season, helping Louisville to a 26-10 overall record with
a 10-6 Big East mark. Simmons helped UL post wins over
three ranked teams in her final season – Rutgers (No. 5),
West Virginia (No. 13) and DePaul (No. 25).
Simmons was born on September 14, 1984. She is the
daughter of Remi Simmons and received her degree in
communications from Louisville in 2008.
