Work:
Home Phone: -- Assistant Football Coach during 2003 and 2004 seasons on the Bustle Staff. Jennings heading to Houston Clay Jennings, who served two years on head coach Rickey Bustle’s football staff at the University of Louisiana, has resigned from that post to accept a position as safeties coach at the University of Houston. Houston has not officially announced Jennings’ hiring, but sources in both schools’ athletic departments confirmed his hiring by the Cougars Saturday. Terms were not announced, but Jennings will reportedly earn over $20,000 more in salary as part of head coach Art Briles’ UH staff. The 31-year-old Jennings, who recruited the Houston area for the Ragin’ Cajuns, coached defensive backs at UL the last two seasons. The Cajuns led the Sun Belt Conference in pass defense during the 2004 season, allowing opponents 174.5 yards per game and finishing over 20 yards ahead of the second-place team (New Mexico State, 197.4). UL was also second in the league in total defense. A native of Waco, Texas, Jennings had previously coached at Sam Houston State, Southern Arkansas, Morningside College and Morehouse College in a seven-year coaching career. Jennings joins a Cougar program that went 3-8 in 2004. He is the third new hiring on the UH staff since the end of that season, joining new linebacker coaches Alan Weddell and Erik Slaughter.
