Softball: Orgeron living up to music

Brady Aymond baymond@theadvertiser.com April 20, 2009

Christi Orgeron is certainly living up to her walkup music.

Orgeron, who approaches the plate to the snappy tune of “Stand Out” from A Goofy Movie soundtrack, did just that this weekend.

The redshirt freshman from Mount Carmel went a combined 7-for-11 with three homers and seven RBIs in the three-game sweep of the Troy Trojans.

“It’s crazy,” Orgeron said. “I’m just executing my plan. We’ve been talking all week about having a plan for hitting and trust your plan and you get results.”

Over the past 16 games, Orgeron has raised her batting average from a team-worst .203 at the time to .262.

“Christi’s figured it out,” UL coach Michael Lotief said. “That kid’s worked hard. She worked hard and kept preparing. You’re watching kids grow up in front of you. They struggle and fail and they keep working.

“She’s making some progress.”

Orgeron raised her batting average by 43 points alone this weekend and tripled her home run total. Orgeron’s only homer going into this weekend was a bomb against South Alabama.

During the weekend, Orgeron hit three bombs, including her first career grand slam in the game two win over Troy.

“You just have to keep working,” Orgeron said. “Every hitter at some time is going to go through a slump. You just have to work your plan and execute the plan. I trust a lot in our plan and I know a lot of the hitters do.”
