CHELSEA SURPRIS

Matt Sullivan, Associate Director of Athletics Communications

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Soccer head coach Lance Key announced on Thursday the addition of Chelsea Surpris (pronounced soo-PREE) to the coaching staff.

The hiring of Surpris, a four-year letterwinner at Texas from 2015-18, is subject to approval from the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors.

“Chelsea is a phenomenal addition to the Louisiana Soccer Program and our staff,” Key said. “I had the tremendous pleasure of working with Chelsea while we were at Texas where I was able to observe first-hand her dedication to pursuing the best version of herself.”

Surpris played in 60 matches with 42 starts during her career at Texas, helping the Longhorns to 43 wins and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. The Crowley, Texas native logged over 4,500 minutes of playing time as a defender for the Longhorns, including 2,004 of a possible 2,005 minutes in the defensive backline in helping Texas to the Sweet 16 in 2017.

“She is incredibly bright both on and off the field,” Key added. “Her commitment to self-development and a standard of excellence is without question and will serve as an invaluable example. The impact Chelsea will have on the young women in our program, both present and future, will be immeasurable as she inspires, encourages, mentors and loves them in a way that will influence their lives forever. I feel incredibly blessed to be able to announce Chelsea partnering with coach (Stephen) Salas and me to continue building champions in Louisiana!”

Louisiana (7-6-3, 3-3-2 Sun Belt) will return to action on Friday when it plays host to Georgia Southern in a 7 p.m. contest at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex.
