Carolyn began her service with the state of Louisiana in 1976 and was employed with UL in August 1981.

Her most recent service was as Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the College of Education.

See the information below on her being a 2012 recipient of the Charles E. Dunbar Jr. Career Service Award, one of only 12 awarded in the state.

Carolyn has been active with the Credit Union since 1987 and has served on the board since 2007. She chaired the nominating committee several times.

Her calligraphy can be found throughout the campus and the community. She is a former board member of the Lafayette Foundation on Aging.

A friend of the Athletic Network since its inception, she and husband Tommy are genuine Ragin’ Cajuns fans.

It is an honor to have her as a friend.

NEW ORLEANS — The Louisiana Civil Service League will honor 12 winners of the Charles E. Dunbar Jr. Career Service Award during the 54th annual Dunbar Awards luncheon Friday at the Doubletree Hotel in New Orleans.

More than 800 state and local classified civil service employees have been cited for their distinguished service since the award’s inception in 1958, said Daniel E. Sullivan, executive vice president of the League.

The award, named for the founder of the League and co-author of the original Civil Service Law in Louisiana, is presented to classified merit system employees who have distinguished themselves through service beyond the call of duty.

The 12 honorees for 2012 are:
•Trudy A. Berthelot, of Brusly, human resources director A, Teachers’ Retirement System of Louisiana.
•Carolyn G. Broussard, of Carencro, administrative assistant 4, University of Louisiana at Lafayette College of Education.
•Paul B. Fossier Jr., of Baton Rouge, assistant bridge design administrator, engineer 7, Bridge and Structural Design Section, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
•Gustave Freche Jr., of Jackson, administrative program manager 4, Louisiana War Veterans’ Home, Jackson.
•Larry W. Grow, of Bogalusa, corrections colonel, Department of Corrections, B.B. “Sixty” Rayburn Correctional Center.
•Geraldine Jones, of New Orleans, human resources manager, Interim LSU Public Hospital.
•Noel Kinler, of New Iberia, biologist program manager, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
•Eugenie C. Powers, of Baton Rouge, deputy secretary, Department of Public Safety and Corrections.
•Gary Shotwell, of Jackson, corrections assistant warden 3, Dixon Correctional Institute, Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections.
•Anthony H. Speier, of Baton Rouge, assistant secretary, Office of Behavioral Health, Department of Health and Hospitals.
•Rainette Stephens, of Baton Rouge, HR division administrator, chief of staffing, Department of State Civil Service.
•Riis P. Suire, of Denham Springs, classification director, State Police Barracks/Physical Security, Department of Public Safety.

Six honorable mentions also will be cited this year because of the closeness of their scores to the winners.

Certificates of Merit will be presented by this year’s judging committee chairwoman, Kay Hoffpauir, of Baton Rouge, to the following:
•Donald K. Barr, of Angola, corrections assistant warden 4, Louisiana State Penitentiary.
•Deborah Bourgeois, of Jefferson, executive assistant, Jefferson Parish Risk Management.
•Belinda Champton, of Gonzales, administrative coordinator, Ascension Extension Service, LSU Agriculture Center.
•Kalford K. Miazza, of Madisonville, lieutenant, Mandeville Police Department.
•Susie Cormier Roy, of Lafayette, administrative assistant, Academic Success Center, University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
•Ursula H. Shaw, of Ethel, 4-H extension educator, East Feliciana Parish Cooperative Extension Service, LSU Agriculture Center.

This year’s judges, all former Dunbar Award winners, are: Kirt A. Clement, Baton Rouge; Jama L. Scivicque, Denham Springs; Cheryl Dees, Zachary; Jean S. Wall, Baton Rouge; and Colleen Lemoine, New Orleans.
