Aurora Auter, 44, who taught interpersonal and organizational communication at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette from 2005-2014, died Monday morning after battling brain cancer.

She was the wife of UL Lafayette mass communication professor Phil Auter, Ph.D.

A native of Toledo, Ohio, Auter earned her bachelor’s degrees in sociology and communication at the University of Evansville in Indiana and her master’s in communication from the University of West Florida.

“Aurora was an exceptional human being whose positive attitude, infectious laugh and sharp mind could really energize the people around her,” said Lucian Dinu, Ph.D., interim head of the UL Lafayette communication department. “We will all miss her.”

Besides her husband, she is survived by four children, Ariella Robinson, 23; Aisha Auter, 18; Aaron Auter, 15; and Aryanna Auter, 8; and her parents, Calvin Smith and Angelia Bell of Toledo.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to Miles Perret Cancer Services.

The family is having a private memorial service. Her remains will be cremated.
