In her studies, Ashley Sanders prepared to care for patients, but as treasurer of the Student Government Association, she said she felt as though she was taking on another caretaking role.
“In nursing I take care of the patient, but as treasurer I take care of each student,” she said. “Running for SGA office and being involved in my
college has really helped me to network and make my own family here.”

She also served as her college’s senator and president on the SGA. As a member of the powerlifting team, she was the USA Power Lifting Collegiate National Champion in 2004 and earned All-American status in 2003-05.

She is the daughter of Doug and Darra Sanders of Slidell.
