Women’s Tennis: Dangond Wins Singles at Cougar Fall Draw

HOUSTON- Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s tennis team claimed two
championships during last weekend’s Cougar Fall Draw.

Angela Dangond defeated the University of Houston’s Neila Starrett 6-4, 6-2
to win the blue singles flight bracket.

The Cajuns also clinched another trophy throughout the weekend, after
Chanell Meijer defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Carmen Abeaboeru 7-5, 6-3
in the red singles flight consolation round.

Meijer picked up her second consolation win of the season. On Sept. 17, she
defeated South Alabama’s Sylvanie Spangenberg to win the white draw
consolation singles at Ole Miss.

Tammy Day and Meijer proved to be a strong doubles team during the
tournament, but were defeated in the championship match against Nina Knavs
and Breda Kovac from Southeastern Louisiana 8-6.

6-4, 6-2.

Red Singles Flight Consolation- Chanell Meijer (UL) d. Carmen Abeaboeru
(TAMUCC) 7-5, 6-3.

Doubles Flight Championship- Nina Knavs and Brenda Kovac (SEL) d. Tammie Day
and Chanell Meijer (UL) 8-6.
