Alice, affectionately known to her grandchildren as ”Nanny,” who was a resident of Lafayette, LA, went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, November 19, 2015, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Alice attended the Academy of the Immaculate Conception in Opelousas, LA, where she fondly remembered being chosen ”Homecoming Queen.” She continued her education at the University of Southwestern Louisiana where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
Until the end of her earthly life, Alice treasured her friendships from both her high school and college years.

Alice taught school for over 30 years, much of that time at Park Vista Elementary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening and working on her patio, dancing, traveling, enjoying good food and desserts, and listening to music, her favorite genre being country and western, particularly George Strait. Alice had a great love for her cats, MeMe and Isabel. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Lazaro Jones and husband, Kenneth Wayne Jones, Jr. of Lafayette, LA; her son, Stephen Charles Lazaro and wife, Suzy Stensrud Lazaro, of Hilo, Hawaii; her brothers, Charles Savoie and wife, Shirley, of Berwick, LA and Bobby Savoie of Denham Springs, LA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Hannah December Jones, Kenneth Wayne Jones III, and Stephen Ashton Lazaro.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ashton and Mabel Richard Savoie.

Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, November 23, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will reopen on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at (pending) on Monday.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana, particularly her nurse, Debra Comier, her aid, Geralyn Cormier, and her physician, Dr. Morris Hoffpauir for the compassion they showed Alice. They would also like to thank her loving caretakers, Colby, Verda, and Mary. The family is forever grateful for the comfort, joy, peace, and tender care and love they showered upon her.
