Mavis’ footnotes:
I earned my B.A. in 1941 with a major in History and a minor in English and Social Sciences. I returned to school for graduate studies and was awarded my M.Ed. in Elemantary Education in 1974.

Warren Kent Finley and I were married in 1941.

Robert J. Angelle Music Building was named after my father. He was Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives and instrumental in obtaining funding for the building. At that time, the building was named Angelle Hall. After his death in 1979, the name was changed to the Robert J. Angelle Building. Willis Ducrest was the head of the Music Department at that time. Papa attended SLII and all three of his daughters graduated from SLI.

I participated in the Women’s Athletic Association from 1937-41 (besides P.E.). Vesta Bourgeois started the WAA to give women an opportunity to letter, receive jackets or blankets – just like the boys, even though there was no competitive sports with other colleges for women.

I was in the Newman Club from 1938-41 and TRI SIGMA Sorority, 1939 – 41, and served as corresponding secretary.

Our five children all graduated from UL.

Louella Angelle Broussard and I represented the Red Jackets for many years until two cancers limited my activities. I am fortunate that I am now cancer-free.
