Weightlifting: Acadian Museum “raises the bar” on November 15 Fundraiser Featuring Lt. Gov. Nungesser and Armand “Mondo” DuplantisWe are planning a gala soiree with music and food in Erath, LA benefiting the Acadian Museum on Friday, Nov. 15, at 6 pm at the Community Center in Erath’s City Park. We will have the unique opportunity to honor two individuals who have distinguished themselves internationally and promoted our cultural heritage: Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and Armand “Mondo” Duplantis. Please plan to attend and support our nonprofit museum which has been open free to the public since 1990. We are the largest Acadian Museum in the country. Sponsorships for tables that seat up to eight people are available. Individual tickets are $40. For tables, please contact me directly perrin@plddo.com or 337-501-3049. You can learn more and buy tickets or sponsorships at https://bellesoiree.cc/. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser is known for his passion for Louisiana and its people. This is most evident through his strong advocacy in tourism, coastal restoration, and disaster recovery efforts. Cajun Armand “Mondo” Duplantis, attended Lafayette High School and LSU, won Olympic gold, set an Olympic record then broke his own world record at 20 feet 6 inches on his third attempt in the Paris Olympics, and broke the world record again, three weeks later in Poland. He also won a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics. There will also be the inductions in the Hall of Fame of the following lifters who all were members of a UL national championship team: Terry Perrin (posthumously), John Arceneaux, E. Gerald “T-Boy” Hebert, Wayne Vizzini, Joe Murry, Jay Trahan, Paul Muffoletto, Bill LeBlanc, James Craig, Randy Peloquin and Warren Perrin. We will also be honoring the members of the 1965 (60 years) USL National Collegiate Weightlifting Team; Weldon Granger with a Lifetime Philanthropic Award; Mike Thompson with a Citizenship Award for his civic, business, political, and religious contributions; and Walter Imahara with a Lifetime Achievement Award, because—among his many contributions to the sport of Olympic Weightlifting—he was the National Masters Champion from 1980-2005 (25 years) before retiring from competition. Please requests for other information to Acadian Museum Chairman of the Board Warren A. Perrin, who can be reached at (337) 501-3049, or by email at perrin@plddo.com
