Volleyball: Louisiana Volleyball Announces Schedule for 2020 Season

Ragin’ Cajuns start play Labor Day weekend at Earl K. Long Gym

LAFAYETTE – The schedule of matches the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball team will compete in during the upcoming 2020 season – the 13th campaign under the guidance of head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot – is now set.

Louisiana’s revised schedule features 22 matches in a season shortened by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ragin’ Cajuns are slated to compete in 14 matches at Earl K. Long Gym, commencing with three consecutive weekends of play during September inside the friendly confines.

Returning five key starters from last season’s team which finished as the hottest in the Sun Belt Conference by winning nine of the final 10 regular season matches, Louisiana (14-16, 10-6 SBC in 2019) officially kicks off the 2020 season Labor Day Weekend (Sept. 4-5) hosting Houston Baptist in the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic.

The remainder of the non-conference portion features weekend sets against South Alabama (Sept. 11-12) and Lamar/Central Arkansas (Sept. 19) – all contests at Earl K. Long Gym.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sun Belt Conference has elected to utilize divisional play only in its 2020 league schedule, and will forgo cross-divisional contests. Louisiana will play a combined 16 SBC matches against its fellow Sun Belt West Division foes, using a format that features a two-match, home-and-home with ULM and three-match series with the remaining teams.

Conference play begins on the road at Little Rock Sept. 25-26 for the first of the three-match series consisting of a Friday doubleheader and Saturday single match.

After an Oct. 2-3 visit to ULM, the Ragin’ Cajuns play all eight SBC home matches consecutively throughout the month of October. It begins Oct. 9-10 with Texas State, resumes Oct. 23-24 vs. Arkansas State and wraps up Halloween weekend with ULM.

Regular season action concludes with a trip to UT Arlington the weekend of Nov. 6-7.

The top four programs from each division will advance to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, scheduled for Nov. 18-22 in Troy, Alabama.

Should disruptions or modifications to the 2020 season occur due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Athletics will quickly communicate the adjustments. Additionally, the department will communicate specific entry and attendance protocols for home games ahead of the program’s Sept. 4 season opener.

All home matches are scheduled to air live either on ESPN or the live stream portal at RaginCajuns.com.

Led by All-Sun Belt performers Hali Wisnoskie and Avery Breaux as well as 2019 SBC Newcomer of the Year Hannah Ramirez, Louisiana seeks to build upon last season’s runner-up finish in the SBC West Division and the recently completed program record stretch of 30 conference victories collected over the past three seasons (2017-19).
