Tribute to Louisiana Coaches Has New Member – Raymond Blanco

The Athletic Network is pleased to announce that a Tribute to Raymond Blanco has been added to the Tribute to Louisiana Coaches.

Raymond was an assistant football coach at USL from 1963-68 and continued to be involved with the Athletic Department, as he became a member of the university administration. He retired as Vice President of Student Affairs in 2009, after 46 years of service to the university.

His tribute is comprised of three sections: I. – his biography; II. Linkage to photo galleries and articles reflecting the depth and width of his involvements; and III. Memories written by former players and people he worked with during his career.

Although he coached at the university only from 1963-68, Raymond’s enjoyed the longest tenure at the university of any of the previous coaches who had tributes posted for them by the Athletic Network. His work in the area of student affairs had many firsts and lasting qualities.

Special appreciation is extended to Michael Neustrom and Ed Pratt, both former players, who provided leadership for the tribute and to all who participated in the tribute effort. The information and photos in section II. and the memorials to Coach Blanco in section III .provide another chapter in the rich history of our athletics program and those participants who were part of building our strong foundation.
