Track & Field:Meyers Leads Record-Setting Day for Louisiana at Crimson Tide Invitational
Louisiana posts eight top-5 all-time finishes in school history during three-day event

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Claire Meyers led a 1-2 finish in the women’s javelin, extending her school-record mark set two weeks ago and lead the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field team to a record-setting day during the final day of the Crimson Tide Invitational on Saturday at Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium.
Kiana Foster posted a pair of top-5 all-time performances for Louisiana with Yves Cherubin, Maria Bienvenu, Ta’La Spates, Emoni Coleman all etching their names in the Ragin’ Cajuns record books to cap off a successful weekend.
One day after Chandler Mixon’s school-record performance in the men’s decathlon, Meyers, who previously set the school-record in the women’s javelin (163-9) on March 25 at the Texas Relays, claimed the individual title after recording a throw of 175 feet, 0 inches and posting the 10th-best throw nationally during the 2021 season.
Meyers was joined in the final standings by Bienvenu, a freshman who had the fourth-best throw in school history (151-2) entering the meet. Bienvenu eclipsed her personal best after posting a throw of 161-4 to finish second overall in the event for the Ragin’ Cajuns and recording the second-best throw.
Foster recorded a pair of top-5 finishes for Louisiana, finishing third overall in the 200-meters (23.62) and fourth in the 100 meters (11.54). Foster’s mark in the 100 was the third-fastest in school history and the best time by a Ragin’ Cajuns sprinter since Keisha Ray Owens posted a time of 11.36 in 1993. The freshman’s time in the 200 meters was the fifth-best in school history and fastest since Deanna Alford’s time of 23.47 in 2009.
Cherubin’s time of 13.82 seconds in the men’s 110-meter hurdles – good for fifth-place in the event – was the fastest recorded by a Louisiana hurdler since Larry Moore’s school-record mark (13.66) in 1992 while Spates’ time of 55.21 in the women’s 400-meters was the third-best in school history.
Emoni Coleman posted a time of 2:13.31 in the women’s 800-meters for Louisiana and the fifth-best time in school history.
Louisiana recorded a pair of second-place performances on the men’s side during the final day as Obdarius Ware was second in the long jump (24-4 ¼) while the men’s 4×100-meter relay team was second with a time of 40.09 seconds. John Joseph posted a pair of top-10 marks for the Ragin’ Cajuns finishing fourth overall in the long jump (23-10 ¼) and eighth in the triple jump (49-2 ¼).
Brock Appiah clocked a time of 21.14 seconds in the men’s 200-meters to finish fifth overall for Louisiana with Nathan Fergusson adding a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (53.59).
Brooklynne Wilson’s throw of 170-10 in the women’s discus earned her a third-place finish with Frankie Griffin, Kennedy Washington and Taylor Davis each clearing 5-7 in the high jump. The women’s 4×100-meter relay team clocked a time of 45.04 to finish third overall for Louisiana with Shonita Brome setting a personal-best in the women’s 400-meter hurdles (1:01.36).
Louisiana returns to action on Saturday (April 17) when it travels to Baton Rouge to compete in the Boots Garland Invitational at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
