JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Yves Cherubin became the third member of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field team to qualify for next month’s NCAA Outdoor Championships after he recorded a school-record in the men’s 110-meter hurdles on Friday during the NCAA East Preliminary at the University of North Florida’s Hodges Stadium.
 
Cherubin joined teammates Cole Courtois (Men’s pole vault) and Maria Bienvenu (Women’s javelin) in qualifying for next month’s NCAA Championships, scheduled for June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
 
The junior finished fourth in his heat and 12th overall in the quarterfinals after he recorded a time of 13.65 seconds and breaking the Ragin’ Cajuns school record (13.66) set by Larry Moore in 1992. Cherubin became the first Ragin’ Cajuns hurdler to advance to the national championships since Winston Sinclair (400-meter hurdles) in 1994.
 
A pair of Ragin’ Cajuns – Rylan Theyard and John Joseph – each looked to advance to the NCAA Championships with Theyard finishing 37th in the high jump (6-9) with Joseph finishing 39th in the triple jump (48-6).
 
The men’s 4×100-meter relay team of Trejun JonesTerroll Jolla, Jahmad Booth and Brock Appiah posted a season-best time of 39.91 – the sixth-fastest time in school history – to finish 17th overall.
 
Louisiana will compete on the final day of the NCAA East Preliminary on Saturday with Frankie Griffin participating in the women’s high jump at noon CT. Brooklynne Wilson will look to advance in the women’s discus at 12:30 p.m. CT, with the women’s 4×100-meter relay team of Kennedy LondonTa’La SpatesSerenity Rogers and Kiana Foster competing at 4:30 p.m.

The NCAA East Preliminary is one of two opening round competitions of the NCAA Track and Field Championships with the West Preliminary happening simultaneously in College Station, Texas.
 
The top 12 performers in each event and top six relay teams from each Preliminary meet will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
